    thanks for your replay shanghaining

    I have lost several hours reading about this machine and CPU. Actually my 4940mx was 3.4 ~ 4.0 ghz and became too hot I did a downclock and downvoltage via XTU to 3.0 ~ 3.9 ghz and -50mv and now I have a stable system. About 55C ~ 62C surfing chrome/ff, 68C ~ 72C playing the division (k5100m) and 80C ~ 83C cinebench or stress tests.

    Im happy with this config but Im worry about low longevity of my computer :/ (accepting suggestions)

    About optimus I just give up and now Im living only with quadro full time on, idk if its a windows problem or something but I'm using windows 10 since I bought the machine and opnimus never worked proprelly

    Your temps are fine. If the CPU gets too hot, it will throttle, or in extreme cases, shut down abruptly and/or crash. If that's not happening, you're fine. I've never heard of a CPU "burning out" because it was pushed to run a bit warm. And low 80's is not that bad, from what I've read, modern Core CPUs don't even throttle until around 90 and the "I should be worried about this" zone is more like 95. The CPU will shut itself off at around 105.

    Mine is a 4710MQ+M6100 with a fresh (not Dell) install of Windows 10. I don't use Windows on that machine as much as I use Linux, but for what it's worth I haven't had any of the problems you are describing when I use Windows with hybrid graphics enabled. I'm using the Intel drivers from Dell and the M6800+M6100-specific firepro driver from AMD's website.

    Ive notice something strange, I tought the default value of my 4940mx was 3.1 ~ 4.0 ghz but actually is 3.8 ~ 4.0ghz for me this is SOOO much for what a need, is there any way that I can change it indefenetily? I dont like to open XTU every boot and change the profile... since the dell bios dont support clock and volt changes

    Btw on default values I get 95C easy.

    Yeah, alright, that is indeed running a bit hot. Only thing I can suggest is downclocking (like you are doing already) or re-paste CPU heatsink.

    ShinEtsu X-23-7783D is cheaper than both of those products and performs identically or better.

    Is your CPU fan running and not clogged with dust? I have a m6800 with a 4940mx (no discrete graphics) and it rarely creeps above 64-ish degrees unless CPU stress testing for extended periods.
    When stress testing, once the fans kick in, it stays at or below 70 degrees C. This is in high performance mode with all the cores locked at 3.7GHz

    OMG if I set all my cores to 3.7GHz the temps hit 95C easy and throttle as hell. The CPU fan is definetily clean and AS5 is applied as best as possible (tried alot).

    My configs are:
    3.1Ghz -> 4cores
    3.3Ghz -> 3cores
    3.6Ghz -> 2cores
    3.9Ghz -> 1core
    cores -50Mv
    cache at 3.7Ghz (default 4.0) default Mv values

    The fan will only hit maximum speed under benchmarks and my maximum temps on a ordinary table are 83C.

    I dont like to open XTU every boot but I think I have to live with that :/

    Im happy with my temps but I will keep looking a way to improve it (accepting suggestions)

    I've never succeeded at using any Precision MWS on an airplane. Plug in that big 200+ W power brick and it instantly overloads the AC power at the seat. Even tried it in the galleys of several type aircraft, never works.

    My assumption is the problem is too much current draw. Does anyone know of a charging solution - Dell or aftermarket - that works on airplanes? My assumption is I need to find a lower current draw charger, but still enough to power the M6800 even if not enough to charge the battery at the same time.

    My problem is urgent. Flying Dallas to Hong Kong tomorrow, don't really need to be online. Returning Wednesday. American Airlines 777 with overwater international wifi service, but obviously nobody has an 18-hr battery. Even a charger for this 9-call battery would be a semi solution, in that I could charge one battery while running on the other. But unfortunately no time to order from Dell. I need a solution I can buy in Hong Kong (very good computer parts availability generally) while I am there. Ideal would be a charger that can run the M6800 for the entire 18-hr flight.

    Any ideas much appreciated!!!

    See if you can find out what the maximum draw is for your flight. Usually it is 100W or 150W, depending on the aircraft, I think.
    Find a Dell power adapter (for Latitude or Inspiron?) that is 90W or 130W. You will be able to run the Precision on it but it may throttle the CPU and GPU speed.
