I think I am going to go the refurb route. I'm looking for docking stations on eBay. ESPRT2 is the current model. Does anyone know if earlier models will work? Mostly I'm worried about getting one with a large enough power supply. $120 new from Dell isn't terrible, but if I'm going the cheap rout, I might as well go all-in.

I found one on eBay that included the 240W PSU.

Is it possible to just use the supplied laptop adapter with the dock?

Definitely. I basically bought the two together from eBay for the price of just the power adapter new from Dell - my main goal was to have two adapters so I could leave one at the office and one at home - getting the dock as well was just icing on the cake.

Power supplies are not all that expensive; around $50.
They have been using the same ones since the m6400.

@rovencrone please let me know your experience on your refurb m6800 when you´re able to test it.
also could you guys give me some feedback on buying a refurb m6800 on ebay? besides the obvious ones like checking the warranty and picking a top rated seller? Thanks!

Yeah it should come tomorrow evening. I'll burn it in and see how it goes and post a link to the seller if it turns out smoothly.

Came in yesterday but I haven't had the chance to play with it til today. Currently wiping the drives and doing a fresh install. I'll add pictures of the case and some burn in temps later tonight in this post. First impressions though are pretty great. For a refurb I expected worse, but there's only a light scratch on the top lid and a small bent part of the lower corner of the monitor bezel. It also came in with a backlit keyboard which I didn't expect (as the seller mentioned that it was an optional part for $50, though I checked and I didn't get billed any extra so seller error?)
