Also when i install the intel hd4600 drive from intel's website, i get an error at the end of the install saying "The driver being installed is not valid for this computer. Please obtain the friver from the manufacturer"
When I install the dell on, it wont install correctly, and bombs out at the end...

Just ran some bench marks, I have the Nvidia k3100m 4GB GDDR5 (Full system specs in signature):

    Furmark 1.12 Benchmark Preset1080p - 18fps, max temp 64 deg C
IntelBurnTest v2.54, Standard test, 10 runs: Stable at 73 GFlops
    Cinebench R10 (64bit): 25920

    WIE:
    Processor: 7.7
    RAM: 7.7 (8GB)
    Graphics: 7.5
    Gaming graphics: 7.5
    Hard Disk: 7.9

If anyone has a specific benchtest they would like me to run, let me know.

Check in the bios to make sure that Optimus is enabled. Based on the power consumption you are using the Nvidia card the entire time. Battery life should be around 8 hours on Optimus. That would also explain why you cannot install the Intel HD Graphics driver.
As for the cloning software you use that sounds like a specific problem with that software. I have not had any issues cloning HDD's or SSD's with other programs but never tried Clonezilla.

I have uninstalled the intel graphics and then re installed the driver, all seemed fine. I have optimus enabled in the bios also. I tried disabling optimus and my power consumption went upto -37,000 mW...

Enabling optimus again brought it to -22,000mw again, so I think the swichable graphics is working fine.

Should i try removing all the k3100m drivers, and the intel HD driver, then install the intel driver first? And see what it goes to? When I open furmark, it only lists the nvidia card, should it also list the intel graphics?

When i first setup the OS, consumption was around 13 watts i think, so i know it's not hardware...

    Thanks for the replies :)

It is worth a shot. You are supposed to install the Intel HD drivers first, then the Nvidia drivers.
The Power consumption should be around 10,000mW give or take a couple thousand at idle once everything is loaded. That is also after optimizing background programs etc.
If that doesn't work, and you still don't get the lower numbers in power saving mode, then we may have to throw in some other ideas.

Also does anyone know if the M6800 touch screen is a TN or IPS panel? Or more specifically, if it allows the use of Optimus?

Did a fresh install of win8 (don't shoot me) onto a spare ssd I have, now consumption is about 12,000mW at idle. Can't quite get the 8hrs though, more so 7 or 6.5hrs.

The CPU is running at .76GHz at idle, is that the same as others? Also, seems windows 8 uses less of my total ram, which is annoying :( And seems to run in general a bit quicker, pity about the crap interface...

You can try to sacrifice performance for more battery life by limiting the maximum CPU usage under power settings. But at that point you are splitting hairs, and it is more dependent on what you are doing with the computer.
I don't know the specifics about that particular Processor, but that sounds pretty close to normal

Windows 7's most enduring complaint is how slow the interface is, particularly start up times. For a typical system 45sec-1.5 minutes was quite common, with longer times associated with more bloat ware. Compare that to Windows Vista which hovered around 30sec, or XP which was about that or less, in addition they compete with Apple's generally quick boot times as well. Windows 8 was designed to use less computer resources, hence why it feels faster, but they had to sacrifice the good looks of Windows 7 Aero. With Windows 8, 30 seconds or less was again achievable. Even with SSD's a Windows 7 load time was around 15-30 seconds. Windows 8 can go down as low as 8 seconds.

Speed and battery wise, do you think it would be best to use a local account on Win8? Instead of an @outlook account?

    Thanks

I don't think it will make a difference, at least not enough to notice. With the amount of power your computer has, those minor processes will barely effect anything.
