An external graphics card adapter which connects to the mini PCI-E could be used as well except that the bottom lid would need to be removed to route the cable.

You will likely need to remove the internal dedicated card to try that

That sucks.... I don't want to let that space free for nothing and something like this card would be the only usable option. I don't need extra WLAN or or something else. But an extra SSD or 2 additional sd-cards would be pretty cool.

    Anyone installed something yet?

There are some 3rd party adapters to connect a desktop card either via the express card slot or via those PCI-E expansion slots on the bottom (but you'd have to route the cable out somehow). You don't need to remove the dedicated card for this, but you do need to have a configuration with switching graphics (so no RGB IPS screen which connects to dedicated card directly).

An mSATA drive is different than a PCIe card (even though they look the same). An mSATA drive will not work in the half-size slot.

As an aside... This week, I installed an ATSC TV tuner card in the WWAN slot and hooked it up to one of the WWAN antennas. The system recognizes it fine, but I am not able to pull in any channels. I guess a WWAN antenna isn't adequate for OTA TV. :)
