I ordered a m6600 this morning but just realized I didn't see an option to upgrade to a backlit keyboard. Is this standard now?

Look at the packing/component list. If it isn't an option then it is usually included. Yet I would double check just in case.

In my case I had to configure the backlit keyboard by myself.
The backlit keyboard is not at the stock configuration.

Had to call in and cancel and re-order. Got a webcam and backlit keyboard added for $18.

For those of you with the Nvidia cards, do you use some particular settings in the Nvid control panel when you run your benchmarks?

    Windows 8 expected Fall 2012.

    M6600 okay with Win 8?

    The answer should be YES!

But any reasons that M6600 could hiccup ...

PS. To those deciding between Dell Precision vs HP, etc.
Dell Precision build is outstanding as is Dell's tech support and warranty.

OK then, its seems its different to the Lenovo W520 where you have to have it configured for RAID when you order the laptop from the manufacturer then.

    No work at all.

    I've installed a GTX 580m in my m6600.

It is not recognized as a proper device. For some reason it has a quadro subsys string instead of the 580m. The device ID is 1211. I had to edit the drivers inf file to install.

Another problem I ran into was power. My battery stayed at 96% and constantly recharging as if there wasn't enough power from the AC.

I had optimus up and running with the m6600 intel 3000hd driver and the Alienware m17x r3 580m driver. Optimus option is enabled in the bios after install.

I'm currently using the firepro until better thermal compound arrives sometimes this week.

So it does work in terms of having a image on the screen and booting into the BIOS right? So I think that is a great progressive success if you ask me! That also can verify that a 6990M may also work to a point where the Dell BIOS still detects it as a 6970M/M8900 but it will have the 6990M Shader Processors and stock clock speeds active. Hmmmm...
