M6600 Owners Thread

Hi guys!

Next problem, maybe somebody had same:
I bought second ac power adaptor for my M6600, to plug it to locking dock. I have PR02X dock. AC adaptor is DA330PM111. My laptop can not recognize this charger. BIOS - newest from dell site. Any ideas? How solve this problem?

So the laptop doesn't "detect" the charger at all, even if you plug it directly into it? Or it just doesn't, if it goes through the dock? Or both?

 

That's a 330W charger, from the Alienware series? That's way higher than you need for any Precision. It's possible that they did not add it to the list of supported chargers in the BIOS.
(For example, I've tried to use my Precision 240W charger with older Dell systems, and while it physically connects, I've had some complain that it is unrecognized.)

The Dell page for this charger does not list it as compatible with anything other than Alienware systems.

Sorry to say it, but I think you're out of luck if the system won't recognize that charger. Get a 240W PA-9E charger and you should be fine.

 

No difference where is connected.

PS. A lot of ebay sellers writing that for M6600 it should fit....

 

These Dell / Alienware chargers have a "One-wire" ID EEPROM chip inside the charger, that's how the laptop can identify / determine what charger is connected. Odds are good that Precisions don't have the Alienware charger ID's in their "accepted" list, which is likely why it's not working.

Lenovos from a few generations ago were fortunately simpler, just one resistor going from the ID pin to ground...

 

I have a 240w alienware adapter, which look the same the precision 240w,. Everything work the same except the label the different，i believe they have the same model number in the psu.

 

Now that I think about it, I don't think that the 330W chargers were even around when the M6600 was produced, so it would make sense that the charger ID is not recognized. These were added later to support power-hungry GPUs that made it into newer Alienware laptops.

 

Was calling to my fellow and he said that if I'll change chip from supported adapter, then this 330w one will run with full power. I need to measuer, how much amps my laptop is taking at full load, but with this card that I have it can be really huge load
