The M6100 is based on the same GCN architecture, so if you install regular Catalyst drivers, it will run games just fine (it has less computing units than 7970M, but it is higher clocked).

I think m6100 is actually gcn 1.1 since it supports freesync with catalyst beta drivers and is based on bonaire gpu.

    Hi,

I have two hard disk drives in my M6600.

    Disk 0 - 320Gb
    Model WDC WD3200BEKT-75PVMT1

    Disk 1 - 128Gb
    Model SAMSUNG SSD PM810 mSATA

I would like to upgrade my disk 1 to a 256 SSD.

    1. Can anyone tell me 256gb ssd works?
    2. Are there any online install guides (eg YouTube)?
    3. If it doesn't work after install, will I be able to put in my old SSD and my computer will start up as before without any extra effort?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jack Slack,

I recently upgraded my primary HD to the Samsung 850 Pro 512 GB SSD and it works fine and was a very simple process. So yes, 256GB or even 1TB will be fine. I am not sure if there is a maximum capacity the M6600 can handle, but my 512 GB SSD works great.

There are quite a few videos on YT if you do a search, but it really is very straight forward and nothing to worry about.

The only think I would suggest would be to add more than just a 256GB as you are only adding 128GB which is not a lot today.

    Good luck.

You have an mSATA SSD, you also have a primary and secondary SATA III 6gbs slot availability of which 1 contains your 320GB HDD. Have you considered just getting a full fledged MLC SSD for the secondary slot ?

I'm wondering what it takes to check and possibly tighten the display hinge screws.
Specifically, can I just remove the trim covering the speakers to get at the screws or is it one piece and part of the palm rest?
    Thanks for any help!

Edit: Found the answer, I think, it is all one piece, so how difficult?

Its easy. 20ish screws. If you just want to tighten it. Follow the service manual.

EDIT: When yanking off palm rest - remove CPU fan (bigger one) and pull trough the hole underneath the keyboard. If you yank it on the side where they marked it in the manual you will permanently bend your palm rest. So fingers trough "cpu hole" underneath the keyboard and try to place "yanking pressure" to the middle of the notebook.

    Thanks, darkydark!

I dread working on things that have such small parts, like tiny screws and blind tiny fastener clips on plastic.
The alternative of not investigating it is that if the hinge block screws are loose it will eventually break something else in a worse way.

An example of me sweating it once was when detaching the coin battery. That wire connector was so tiny and a little piece of insulator plastic above it would not let it come apart... bifocals and a magnifying glass, it was still hard to see what was going on.
