I know its late, but I couldn't disassemble my M6600 as last minute project came in and notebook was in heavy use.
This is heatsink with pads Dell has sent me for my M6600 when M8900 died out.
Heatsink is exactly the same as original heatsink that was in, only reason they sent entire heatsink was due to fact they dont have thermal padding listed as a part - it comes as an entire assembly.

My M6600 had max temp of 75C during summer months and last two weeks I only saw 75c on the GPU.

It runs cooler and quieter that M6100 in my M6800.

    Guys

I recently started playing GTA V with the FirePro M8900 it runs good on DX 10.1 (not so good in DX11 as expected)

Anyway I was hearing from a friend to use the 6970M drivers to get a way better gaming performance. I have not tried this yet but it does not seem like a terrible idea.

Any idea if getting a different AMD driver can make the card better for gaming?

    Thanks!

My old M6600 had no difference in any benchmark or game that i played with radeon drivers compared to firepro.

You gain a few fps (5-10 in most games usually), tha'ts about it, if you game a lot I think its worth it since all you do is download and install. I've been thinking about getting gta v but I don't know how well it will run on my laptop (m8900 and i5 2540m)

Does anyone know how to tell if you have an IPS panel? I have an option to enable 10-bit color in the Firepro Control Panel, but I'm a bit leery of toggling it on. The screen is quite bright and has very nice viewing angles, but I'm not sure if it's actually IPS or not. If I enter my service tag in Dell's support site, I find the following reference to the panel:

VCV1F LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 17.3FHD, WLED, LVDS, AG, Z, LENGTH/LONG

That sounds like an LED panel, but I'm not familiar enough with panel technology to tell if that's IPS or not.

Wled mean it isn't. The 10 bit option broke aero on win7, otherwise it is safe to turn on, bit it aren't used at all unless you have a 10bit workflow.

Thanks, Baii. Unfortunately, it appears you're right and I don't have an IPS screen. I also noticed that in the Firepro Catalyst settings, there's also a quad buffer stereo option for 3D shutter glasses. Is this a usable option, or strictly for desktop Firepro cards? If it is usable, what kind of glasses would be compatible? Not 3DVision I'd assume...

    Hello all...

Just noticed my battery light keeps flashing even though the Dell Battery Information says the battery is charging and also is fully charged with 100% remaining.

Could this point to a bad battery?

    Thanks in advance!

Nope, I still don't understand how the battery light work by today.

Just unplug(was off when power of plugged in) and plug in mine and it start flashing, so flashing mean charging, probably.

    Hi,
I have question about GPU upgrade.
I read many topics about upgrade M6600, but nothing give me answer.
I would change my M8900 (6970m) to 7970m or m6100. With M6100 it work, but this gpu is not for gaming. I found 7970m on ebay, but users had problem with vbios.
Will it work with this gpu: 7970M from Alienware
It is pulled from Alienware that means vbios is from dell, but on gpu is crossfire conector.
    Thanks for answer.
