Just wanted to let others know I think I solved this, in case others are having the same problem and are looking for a solution.

I found a tip that said the cause on the 6600 for this frozen-sleep condition under Windows 8 may be the network driver, and it recommended the specific one I updated to - which you can find on the Dell site, Network-Driver_NTX2J_WN_15.05.1000.1411_A00. I installed this, and I am in my 6th day with no freezes! It had never gone more than 2 days without a freeze before, so I am prepared to declare victory :)

    Hope this helps someone.

The palm rest and lid looked very plain in my opinion, so I decided to make it look better by adding stickers to it :) :

FWIW regarding sleep mode as opposed to a complete shutdown, I always completely shut down at the end of the day. I never leave any computer on over night. That way at the start of the day when I turn on the computer it starts clean.

I was advised to do that by an instructor in a beginning computer science class.

    Again FWIW...

In my opinion not neccessary anymore (at least since Windows 7). I'm often using hibernate and my notebook may run for 5 or 6 days in a row, without any problems or noticeable slowdowns. This may of course differ if you use software which is not well-designed and doesn't clean up after itself.

    Cheers!

Will my hinge break? I decided to place it on its monitor side; as you can see from the picture:

this makes it ten times easier to do math problems and take notes! What do you think?

Well, mine hasn't broken yet :). I do the same thing (editing in PDF Revu) but with the screen oriented vertically. I use a slanted notebook cooler under the lid so that the lid does not flex when I write on it. I cushion the lid on the cooler with a thin piece of foam. I'm glad to see someone else doing weird things with a 6600. :p

    Here it is:

Hello there m6600 owners, as i'm about to buy refurbised m6600 from dell outlet store in the next 12 hours i do have some questions.

First of all i'm from Croatia and everything will be done on a tight schedule due to nature of his work and free time. Since notebook should be delivered to a friend of mine currently in USA and he should deliver it to me back in Croatia sometime in April. I would do it that way to save alot of money, same system of any manufacturer would cost me at least 2000$ more in my country. And same "power" that notebook provides cost me less that an equivalent system. ie. cheapest i5 3570k costs 340$ in my country.

Is it imperative that for placing an order I use USA Phone number, is there any way to place an order via Skype or just making international phone Call. Problem is transferring money to his account in US for him to complete and/or make transfer on my behalf.

Since i'll be ordering model without wifi card, how picky are precision models with wifi cards, as i have few intel ones laying around my flat.

In case i get wrong model shipped (ie wrong display nad/or different hard drive) there will not be time to send it back and get another one, does dell offer some kind of "money compensation" for their error, or i have to return notebook back for a full refund?

And most important thing, warranty transfer from USA to Croatia. Can i do it over email/chat/skype with a customer service representative without using USA Phone number.

Basically I would "use" my friend to check if everything on notebook is as advertised and i would pick it up in a month as i will be passing trough USA in last week of may, but will not have any time to do anything else while there.

I can't answer most of your questions but I got my machine brand new from eBay with a full Dell 3-year warranty. I called Dell to transfer the warranty to my country, no problems.
