My 6600, running Win 8, will seem to just go to sleep or something when I have not used for awhile - like overnight. I do not have hibernate or sleep or anything set via Power Options, I just close the lid which "does nothing" - I can then unplug the laptop, close the lid, go somewhere, open the lid and everything is the same.

Anyway, frequently, if enough time has elapsed, I open up the lid (say next morning), and the screen is dark, and the only thing that works is press and hold down the power button to shut down. I try shorter presses to the power button, hitting a key, jiggling the mouse, nothing.

Is this a know issue, or are there any tips to diagnose/fix this? It never did it with Win 7 but it does with Win 8.

    Thanks!

    Hello,
is it possible to put the Mobile Modem Dell 5560 (not 5550) into Dell Precision M6600? Will this WWAN module be working properly? What about Dell Whitelist?
    Best regards

I have tested the 5620 and it works fine so I would not worry about the 5560. Dell is pretty good on the business side about NOT using white or black lists and as long as the WWAN card has a Dell part #, it should be good to go.

So, you mean , it should be working as long as the WWAN card has a Dell part number? Could you explain the difference between 5620 (or 5630) and 5560 mobile modem's?

    Dell Wireless WWAN Cards
    55xx - UMTS/HSDPA Only + GPS. SIM required - Up to 7.2Mbps.
    56xx - Multi-Mode EVDO-HSDPA-GSM with QCT Gobi + 900Mhz + GPS. SIM/No SIM - Up to 7.2MBps << Good global option
    57xx - CDMA EVDO Only + A-GPS. No Sim - Up to 3.1MBps

On the business side, most of the cards are originally tested with the Latitudes and then the Precisions. Since both the E series and the Precision M6600 share the same HM/QM67 chipset, most of the add-on cards are fully compatible along with the drivers.

Dell lists all these cards with the following statement:
"This product has been tested and validated on Dell Systems. This product is supported by Dell Technical Support when used with a Dell system."

Ok,thanks for good explanation. One more question: What's the difference between 5560 and 5550? I found somewhere an information that the WWAN 5560 allow to reach the speed connection up to 21 Mbps. Is that right? Any differences yet?

The optical bay is SATA-2. The only SATA-3 ports in this machine are the two 2.5" main bays.

The old inquirer y of mine repeated:

    - has anyone succeeded in swapping the 4000M with the K4000M?

This looks like a very attractive way to breath new life to my M6600 (using CUDA a lot) - but can it be done without any nasty surprise?

    TIA,

    Piotr
