Well got the backlit keyboard in today, what a difference in feel. I love this and it works perfect.

Well they must have pushed all the old stock off on the whole sale market.

Hard to sell the new 6700 when the 6600's are on such deep discounts.

I too am having this problem. Is anyone else aware of this being an issue with the M6600? It does this in both Windows and Linux so I am assuming it is a hardware issue. And it did not do this when I first got the laptop a month ago, it jsut started in the last week or two. Any help appreciated.

I am still using the driver that Win 8 installed for it. It's listed as the Radeon equivalent. Everything has been working great.

A quick question regarding the HDMI output from the M6600. When I connect the M6600 to either a TV or to an AV amp, i only get video... no audio at all. Is it possible to get audio aswell? If so, what would I need to do to get it as well as video?

Thanks in advance for your help

On Windows, try changing the lid closing options. Right click the battery icon, go to power options then for your current option, select Edit Plan Settings > changed advanced power settings > Power Buttons and Lid > Lid Close Option > sleep

Yeah you're supposed to get video + audio, check and download for the latest drivers on your graphics card.

For M8900 on Windows 8, you have to download the version that's on the Dell Driver website

    Hi!

I'm using the M6600 for roughly 18 months and for a while now my processor keeps throttling down. Took me a while to figure this out, but the CPU core temps are getting way to high when the GPU is used and I guess an environmental sensor is throttling the CPU in this case.

I looked through this thread and it seems that I can exchange the heat transfer paste by myself. Does this affect in any way my guarantee or would it be better to let someone from Dell replace it? I've always used paste so far, any reason to use a pad instead?

    Any comments appreciated!

Edit: I just talked to the support - it would be possible to do it by yourself (although not that easy), but he recommened a technician who will switch the heatsink and the paste.

You could try taking a look in the control panel -> hardware and sound -> sound. There you should get a list of your audio playback devices (when your hdmi-cable is connected). From time to time I had to change the default playback device there to get the audio working on an external device. Maybe it's as easy as that?

    Cheers!

By the way, by answering the question about the power and the lid, I was able to play mp3 and audio files on the computer with the lid down, while it's in my backpack, while walking around!

Sure, the battery may not last that long, but if you make a brand new power setting, you can get it to last more than 4+ hours if all you're doing is playing audio. All you have to do is create a new power setting for playing music while the lid is down, make everything even more power saving efficient than the power saving setting on battery, change how the computer reacts when the lid is closed, and voila, you now have an 8 pound mp3 player! Plug in headphones to the side, place the laptop in your backpack, then you're good to go!

Also, no one seems to appreciate how the vent locations for the laptop are ingenious. While placing the laptop over your thighs, the fans are also right above them, being covered up, which means the laptop heats up more. This feels good in the winter time, when it's snowing outside and you're freezing, all of a sudden you take out your laptop which was in sleep mode, feeling all the warmth of the laptop, then placing it on your lap to feel even warmer! It feels really nice.

Does anyone have any advice on how to reduce eye strain on the M6600? I have the touch screen version, and I usually love to use a computer for over 12 hours straight, but after 2 hours, my eyes start to strain and tear up. I put an anti-glare screen protector on the screen since I got it, and it's helped a bit, but now I just feel a lot of strain for some reason. Any help?

In which order should the drivers etc be installed (recommended) for Win8?
I have seen a thread for Win7 concerning this, but not for Win 8 yet.

Hoping for some quick help here.
