    Hello Eknight1
I did not open the M6600 the 1st one had the blue screen of death and the service engineers tried repairing over the internet and could not fix! I returned under the English distance sale of goods act within seven days you have to give no reason just back it to Dell if you are a personal purchaser.(I suspected the nivida card driver did not work with IE 8 .

The second one the smart card contact reader did not work same as above returned to Dell.

3rd one wrong spec so went back and waited for the IPS screen.

I could write several pages of A4 regarding the returns problems, in fact the service engineer said there was no problem etc but Dell gave me a very large discount on the recent purchase, so complaining works!

    Hope that helps regards Clive

I just ordered a new M6600 with 2960XM and IPS panel and Quadro 5010M. On Crucial's web site they list DDR3-1333 in 1.35V and also in 1.5V for the same price - both for the M6600. Why do they list both? Am I correct in thinking I want the 1.35V for power conservation. When would you want 1.5V for a laptop?

I am going to put a Corsair Force GT 480GB SSD in it as soon as I get it. So I plan on simply pulling the 2GB RAM and the existing HDD and putting the new SSD and RAM in. What do I need for installing Windows fresh and clean?

Can I use the DVD that I purchased with the system for $3.00 called "Recovery Media for Genuine Windows® 7 Professional, 64bit", or will I need to purchase a new Windows DVD to do this? Will this allow a clean install without any Dell bloatware on it?

Oh well, I saw a fix it file from Microsoft to change some registry settings (which I ran and then checked manually. Restarted and changed the Bios from Sata Raid to AHCI and guess what!!!? Yes dead machine. Cannot boot into anything now so I have removed the drive and ripped off my VMs and will try again. I keep getting an Intel Manager Error when start and then a white flashing bar in the top left.
Is the a proper book of words for these machines even if it has details on the MB and Bios. I cannot seem to find anything.

I appreciate the info on the returns

But you might wana double check with another rep cuz I have multiple quotes with 2 512 SSD drives which is something that has been promoted with this system I think you cannot order with only an msata but I am positive that you can have more than 1 ssd

Is there any aftermarket 512 SSDs that would fit here cuz I could not find any

I was also wondering what the best aftermarket 8g ram sticks for the m6600 there are I am shooting for 4 8g 1600 or 1333 ram but will settle for 4 4g 1600 ram sticks if the price is right and its plug a play with no known issues on install any info would be great

In my attempt to make my m4600 dual boot with IRRT and AHCI, I ran into BSOD as well but it just require the following steps to "recover"
    1. change BIOS setting back to IRRT (Dell's original factory install was IRRT on my system)
    2. Boot into Windows, let Windows repair the damage, back to last restore and it was fine.

You can read my tutorial for M4600.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...ow-switch-irrt-achi-dell-precision-m4600.html

I have provided link to other articles on the net. You need Windows to have the right drivers as starting service so it'll load, as well as critical device in the registry so it'll understand/knows about other possibilities of HDD format.

My system was able to boot into either IRRT or AHCI without issues.

I can still get into the Bios and the fingerprint reader works as it obviously saves the fingerprint profile in the Bios.
Now I am AHCI I am hoping I can recover. I have an Acronis Backup as well so I am hoping that will restore. Lots of hopes. I will let you know if and how I recovered it (I hope):)

My apologies, I think I got the order backwards in my previous post. The proper way is to do the registry change first to enable AHCI, boot, and then set to AHCI in the bios. This has worked for me on my home built desktops.

Win 7 has the AHCI drivers in place, but if the bios is not set to AHCI, then it is turned off in windows., and that's why you do the registry change. I know, most of you guys know this already.....

A bit late after I have splatted my system:D Luckily I read the links you sent me and sussed it out. Anyway it didn't work and I could not go back once I had tried to boot in AHCI. I then set it back to Sata Raid and that gave me Intel Drive Manager errors. So I removed the Sata_0 backup drive and tried to reboot and HOOOOOO Freaking RaYYYYYYY the system restarted in AHCI. Hopefully now I will not get any more hot docking drive problems.
I am just preparing my mindset for the plethora of BSOD's now:D Thanks for the help (even if it was the wrong way round).
