In my experience the reps are hit or miss so some have knowledge and others not so much however they all share the issue of misinformation about new upgrades being way off so they can make a sale then next week the upgrade comes out.

I have had good results from the small business reps by claiming I am debating 8760w and hp offered 30% off which is true so Ive gotten multiple quotes at or near 30% off the total price which for me is about 3k

I am searching for predictions on the release of the 2960xm processor being available for the m6600 when and if it will come would be great even if its a guess

Bokeh I see you have confidence in your sources so I was hoping you could ask around or make a guess on when or if we will see the 2960xm shortly

As some of you guys may know, I'm using my M6600 mainly for number crunching Moldflow analyses. However, I do video editing as a serious hobby as well; recently Vegas Pro v.11 was introduced with Sony claiming extensive CUDA support for both playback and rendering...

Basing on some early benchmarks, people using the latest GeForce cards with Fermi architecture can really feel the CUDA acceleration in both playback and render. I have the latest and greatest Quadro 4000m "high-performance, workstation-class" graphics...

And yet, this is what I had to ask SCS support after some initial tests:

"Please tell me why my newest Dell M6600 laptop, when playing back a 6-camera track in multicamera editing mode, the playback can be Best/Full at 25 fps on VP10 or VP11 with GPU acceleration off, but drops down to 12 fps when I activate my Quadro 4000m graphics?!!"

Anyone with the same experience? Of course, I'm at the most current BIOS and drivers, and sure enough the Quadro 4000m is Fermi, too ...

Currently downloading the vp11 Benchmark and Vegas Pro 11.0.371 trial version.

Do you like it better than Premier Pro / On Location / After Effects?

Can anyone tell me please how I can reinstall my OS on my M6600? Can not find anything helpful on the web or on the Dell website. It just says there that I shall insert the windows cd to reinstall... which I do not have (not possible to buy with the M6600).

    Thx.

Ran the benchmarks and the Quadro 4000m is 10-20x faster than the 2920xm when outputting 1080p video with real time effects to a 24" monitor. Pretty much the opposite of what you are seeing.

Maybe you had an optimus issue? Drivers? Ram settings in Vegas?

    Feel free to PM me.

Thanks Bokeh - I will contact you for sure, as VP is my NLE of choice and I was counting on its CUDA support. Now I'm traveling in business, but will be back on Friday :)

In the meantime, which VP11 Benchmark you mean? I must say that I suspect some driver problem, as the only test I had time to run - the 6 HD cameras multicamera edit - performed 50% slower than in VP10, or VP11 with GPU acceleration off!

To anyone still wondering about the Chi-Mei fiasco, I can easily say that Dell US has stopped using them for the M6600. My replacement today came with a LG and I think they are still using AUO as an alternative.

Good news: it's at least quite efficient in rendering - I've run the Rendertest-HD, and while with VP10 it takes 170 secs, it's only 80 seconds with VP11 and GPU acceleration on!

And an important observation: while at my multi-camera track playback the CPU is still taxed heavily with GPU only working at some 15%, in rendering I can see the GPU taxed at 90-100% - and it shows! So, the poor multi-track playback could be the VP11 code not being optimized yet...

If only this card was giving the same kind of benefits in multi-camera or FX-heavy playback...
