Just read where he said it did not crash with only one memory chip. Since he was calling them memory "cheaps" I did not see it. So looks like it was a memory issue. I really have to avoid ranting posts in the mornings.

I appreciate the quick clarification there and I thought there was probably something else causing the crashes in that vid

I notice you have 2920xm is it more than enough for your needs I am debating weather I should wait for 2960xm or order now with the 2920 and possibly ips

    So what would you do

    Any thoughts would be great

    I meant 2960xm with IPS if I wait not 2920 w IPS

Also is it true that Intel graphics only work with ATI

Is it because of NVIDIA optimus or am I wrong about that

    Apologies for multiple posts

Ok. Intel graphics switching will not work with the ATI video card. The Optimus video switching technology is owned by Nvidia - not Intel. I can understand what Nvidia would not allow it to work on ATI cards.

On the IPS panel, it uses 10 bit color which both ATI and Nvidia support. Unfortunately the GPU built into the Intel chips is only 8 bit. Since you need that Intel chip to have something to switch to, the IPS panel will only work with the actual ATI or Nvidia card. So Optimus is once again not going to be able to work, but this time it is due to the Intel GPU.

So. If you want Optimus, get the non-IPS display and an Nvidia graphics card.

If you want ATI gaming speed and reduced cost, you have to give up on Optimus switching. You can feel free to send a grumpy assed email to Nvidia and ATI requesting that they just get along.

If you want glorious IPS color, you have to give up the Optimus switching as well. You can feel free to send a grumpy assed email to Intel asking why they only support 8 bit color in their fancy new cpus.

If all of this is overwhelming and you just need a computer to be expensive, simple, and underpowered - buy a Mac. Its the same advice I gave to my mother in law who constantly downloads every toolbar and free game in the world.

    Hi,

I get a strange issue with my Precision M6600.

In fact, when I'm on battery mode (Directly into the BIOS, or on Windows), when I set the light power to the min value or so, my screen has some strange "glitter" (glittering/flickering, I don't know how to say).
This issue make the screen black for a millisecond or less, and recover instantly. It's very disturbing.

(Sorry for my English, I'm French^^).

Another information, it seem that my screen is a LG PHILIPS LP173WF1.

What BIOS version do you have on your M6600?

BIOS version A04 from 13.09.2011 maybe fixes that issue:
