I am considering getting the M6600, but security is a huge concern for my need.

I was wondering whether this laptop supports hardware-based hard drive encryption for the solid state drives. I know that Dell offers a FIPS 320 GB HDD.

Also, would TPM take care of the hard drive encryption by asking for a password before able to access the hard drive even for solid state drive.

    Thanks.

Another 100% certain reason of the laud clicks are Windows system sounds (like "email arrived" gong, emptying Recycle Bin, etc.)

Anyone, please? I need to know whether I'm the only one with this problem, as this would mean I can count on having Dell fix it - which is of paramount importance to me, given my video and music editing usage...

Any word on the IPS screen for the m6600? The latest rumor had it available on 9-11 which has come and gone.

The 9/11 date was ignored by most people except the original poster.

Someone else had posted that their rep said late September. The late September "date" was affirmed as being correct by a couple of sources. Even Mano G from Dell said it sounded "good to him".

My guess is that you have 2 weeks to wait.

Anyboy an idea, when the new cpus will be available for the M6600?

Dell already offers the quadcore-followers 2760QM and 2860QM in the 17 inch Alienware machines.

I do not know about the ati problems with cad but if you read Bokeh's amazing review of the M6600 then you will see there is a significant performance boost with the 4000. The 3000 is very good already but the 4000 is around 40% better if my memory serves me right. Might be worth the extra investment.

I know it may be I need to retrain myself but I would like to know if there is a way to tell the backlit keyboard to NOT time-out when I stop typing.

    Thanx!

Lads, I'll be getting M6600's with 2x2GB 1333MHz (already ordered), I am getting aftermarket 2x4GB 1666MHz modules, is there any risk in running all of them at the same time in terms of system stability? Having 12 GB instead of 8 GB RAM might be worth sacrifing that extra bit of speed (I will be using the extra RAM), but I want to make sure I don't run into issues.
