Thanks for the info. Do you think a software workaround is possible? Possibly send 8bits to the IPS screen while on battery power or is this a hardware limitation?

    Hi Tom,

Do you have CAD? I'm interested to know how the AMD video card handles professional applications like CAD and Maya.

    Thanks

If you're using Maya you'd be a fool not to get the Quadro.

Not sure you would want to work around it. 256 shades of red, green, and blue in 8 bit mode is 1/4 the 1024 shades in 10 bit mode. When it switches you lose a lot of info.

The only workaround would be Intel supporting 10 bit per channel in the IGP. With Optimus, everything has to flow through the IGP.

I could be wrong on this. The Intel spec sheet are tough reading. Nvidia is worthless and all of their info is overly broad.

Why do external 10 bit monitors not have this issue with optimus? With optimus enabled via bios couldn't the system just switch to 8 bits per channel and 10 bits with it disabled?

Tomcom in 1st post said that the M6600 keyboard has "moderate flex" (compared to 6500?). Can anyone comment on the degree of flex?

I'm about ready to order M6600 - I'm used to the rock-solid keyboards on Thinkpads (but Lenovo got out of the 17" business - so I'm looking at Dell/HP).

the keyboard requires very little force to press the keys vs lenovo, to me it feels smoother and i prefer it. its not much different from the one i had on the m4400.

its nice to be able to type lightly, less strain and feels faster

oh the key travel is less than my m4400 and a lot less than the lenovo keyboards too. to me this is a good thing, but it depends on personal preference i suppose

flex wise, there is a little flex but you wont notice it. as long as you dont punch the keys...which you dont have to given the shorter travel and softer and smoother feel

    Havoxtex,

Do you know if the M6600 can actually take advantage of DDR3-1600 memory, or will it run at the DDR3-1333 speeds ?

I have a M6400 and am ready for an upgrade.

    I see Crucial has 2-DIMM / 8GB kits for $90, or 4-DIMM / 16GB for $180 which is 4X Cheaper than Dell's prices.

    Thanks

It'll run at 1600 no problem.
