For what it's worth, the eSATA port on my W700 never worked, either. I kinda suspect that the technology really isn't as well-developed or mature as it ought to be, considering how long it's been around.

Nope - same behaviour as w/o a dock (only Dell's own eSATA enclosure works).

It works on my M6400 with RAID enabled, but it's a WD Passport 500GB via some cheap external enclosure with eSATA.

    1) 2) Don't know

    3) do you have to order with raid, or can you turn it on on all systems?

You can turn on with all systems

    4) 2x intel 510 raid 0 without any trouble?

    No problems

    6) can you have fans under a control like TPfancontrol on Lenovo? I hate them switching on/off constantly

Fans on the M6600 are awesome vs W520, no need to control them

    7) any significant problems with M6600 so far? With W520 I have there are plenty...

No I moved from a W520 to a M6600 and was so happy vs all the little annoyances.

Thanks, so I don't need to order with two HDDs to have RAID, right? Because on Lenovo I have to.

But that eSata thing is strange. I am using eSata for a backup on my W520 and it is great.

Yep. I just bought the machine with 1 HDD and put in 2 750GB HDD's in RAID 0 before I upgraded.

In fact the BIOS was set to RAID with one HDD from factory

Correct. They do it for the Intel Rapid Restore tech.

eSata should work in raid or AHCI. Will do some testing this morning and report back.

You have to install Dell's Access and Control Vault software to get the fingerprint scanner working (hassle). Once you've installed the drivers + software, you can use the fingerprint scanner to login when the computer turns on, at windows login or both. Dell's software was giving me trouble so I uninstalled it.

    Get the FIPS scanner.
