No, it's reading as some unknown card.

In hindsight, I'm thinking the reason for the low scores may have been voltage.
In the Clevo, the 580M goes up to 1V+, in the M6600, it never goes above 0.8V.

Damn machine, already had a mainboard replacement a few weeks ago...

Woke up yesterday morning to a Cyan vertical line down the LCD and a bluescreen on ati.sys at random.

A few hours of tests and dell support.

    Replacing the GPU and LCD...

Oh but they're out of stock so could take a week or two....

Dell says... We have to do like for like replacements on components and we cant offer machine replacements.

God damn, Mainboard and CPU replaced already, now LCD and GPU

To add, I am exceptionally careful with the machine, there isn't 1 scratch on it, I have never overclocked the machine either.

Dell is right. You should get the right processor when you order the machine. This way you know it will be covered under warranty. It may be cheaper as well since the upgrade cost from the worst i5 processor is $240 and an i7 2720qm is $399 by itself. Just buy the quad core when you buy the machine.

Dell was correct about it not being possible for everyone to change their processor. It is not considered to be a user replaceable part. It should be left to someone that repairs notebook computers on a daily basis.

I have repaired desktops and laptops since 1999, but don't do it every day anymore. I had two hardware techs helping me when I changed the processor because they wanted to see how the M6600 was built and I didn't want to make a mistake.

The only reason I went into the M6600 and tried the switch was because I really like taking things apart and seeing how they work. I have done it my whole life. But, you have to know what you are doing and have the right tools and procedures to avoid breaking the machine.

Off the top of my head, you need to have a good understanding of:
-How to use the proper tools to disassemble the machine without breaking it
    -How to guard against static
-How to keep track of every part that comes out
-How to identify connector types and how they work (there are around 6 on the palmrest)
-How to remove and clean a heat sink
-How to properly paste a chip and replace the heat sink

If you were not 100% sure that you knew what you were doing, I would leave the work to a proper repair shop.

That is so bad. It should qualify for replacement. Slowly they gonna rebuild it new piece by piece.

Hello to you M6600 owners !

I'm falling for this laptop but the beast costs a lot.
I'm living in France and this laptop would be the fifth DELL i buy.
Each time, I managed to negociate the price. I got for example arround 350€ on a 2000€ machine.

But the thing is the M6600 is too expensive in France.
So I'm thinking about ordering it on DELL's US website.

I configured the basic M6600 but with the WUXGA panel.

1684$...do you know if there is a way to lower that price?
Can i get outlets, coupons, anything?

    Thanks in advance,
Keep up the good work, I love reading this thread.

    Bye

After 2.5 months of trying to get a new laptop (2+ months spent waiting for a HP 8760w and giving up), I have a new m6600 only 1.5 weeks after ordering it. I've been dubious about Dell for a long time but took a shot on this machine and I'm glad I did.

It feels solid, the screen is fantastic and the keyboard feels great. With the SSD and fast RAM everything opens instantly. The configuration I ordered from Dell is a big upgrade over the 8760w I had on order and even with extending the warranty and adding pro support, I'm still $1k cheaper than the HP.

Totally thrilled at the moment. The "dubiousness" is wearing off.

    Matt

    Happy for you Matt !

I've been looking at HP's laptops, first the 8740w then the 8760w. Both communicate a lot on their IPS screen but in the end the M6600 RGB led is better in every compartiment and has a better time response.

    Enjoy your new toy !

Anyone, please? My M6600 is such a great machine; so stable and fast - therefore I hate the idea of having to send it (or the docking station) for servicing...

Just to be clear: this picture shimmering on the secondary VGA monitor (running at 1680x1050, btw) is intermittent. It's not there while I'm typing this; it comes and goes without any obvious reason.

Could it be just some electrical interference on the (medium quality) VGA cable? Or worse - since the integrated graphics has access to the machine's RAM, is it possible some specific combination of active applications ?

    Any comments and suggestions welcome,

    Piotr

PS. Of course, I have eliminated all other obvious possibilities: it's not the monitor, or the cable by itself (they never behave like this when hooked directly to the VGA port), so everything is pointing to the docking station - but then again it's not permanent and frankly, it's OK most of the time - just a couple of minutes now and then...

Not sure Dell US will accept to deliver to France, I guess they'll redirect you to Dell France. Maybe someone else will confirm.

Anyway, please enable Private Messaging in the options so that I can PM you.

is it possible to buy raid enabled M6600 somewhere besides dell.com? I also want to import it to Europe. It is 50% more expensive here.
