There is no way to have the Texas Instruments chipset? by buying an additional card to insert it into the express card?

No, the chipset is soldered on to the motherboard and I have never heard of TI selling their IEEE 1394 Chipsets on an external media.

So you are either have to go back to a M6500/M6400 or go Macintosh...

There is no way to change the onboard chipset.

    Sure, this is possible.
You need an ExpressCard Firewire with a TI controller.
    For example: http://www.ieee1394-produkte.de/ExpressCard_Firewire_400_IEEE-1394a_TI_34mm_PCD-1000.html

I really thought you wanted to change the onboard controller into a TI one by flashing with another software or something like that.

I ask questions because I do not know much about computers.

Thanks, ok so it's possible, cool!

I can buy any card T.i ? No need to look at the format? Can I put an express card firewire 800 on the M6600 ?
And how does it work? I just have to insert it into the express card slot and work? Should I turn off the old chip on the motherboard?

About latency, that is to be done to decrease the maximum?
Because I intend to buy a new laptop is the dell M6600 or the HP 8760w, it will be solely devoted to the sound, composition, recording and mixing ...

You can disable the existing card in the Bios.

Lowering the latency will require attention to not only the hardware, but the software you are running. I would suggest going to blackviper.com and going through all of his recommended Windows tweaks. The less that is running in the background, the fewer latency spikes.

    That does not matter.
Most problems can be solved by communication therefore this forum is made.

You can use ExpressCard 34(mm) as well as ExpressCard 54(mm) with your Dell Precision M6600. And you can use Firewire 400 or 800.

Put the ExpressCard into your ExpressCard slot, boot your M6600 and install the ExpressCard with the supplied software. That´s it!

That is not necessary at all.

Hi. I have a question about screen swap. I am planning to replace standard screen on m6600 with a mtouch one. I think I've read somewhere that mtouch is more thick than standard. So do I have to swap the lid or not? Will I encounter any other problems?? Thanks in advance I apricieate any help.

You will have to get the panel assembly as well as the lid / bezel assembly.

Thank you, for the site and the information:

Here is the config I think if I take a dell (I hesitate because with the HP EliteBook 8760w)

    _ 64-bit Windows 7 Pro
    _ I7 2760qm
    _ 8 GB of ram (2x4)
_ 320 GB HDD (I intend to replace the hdd with two others purchased separately.)
    _ 17.3 "FHD
    _ Nvidia Quadro 3000M

What brands of hard drives do you recommend? I intended to be a Western Digital,
    a seagate or samsung.

If I install the express card firewire texas instruments, and I do not disable the one already on the card in the bios, its not going to cause problems in the system? Motherboard?

Tests on the HP 8760w they said he had a good build quality, but for a cheaper and almost the same performance we could have a M6600, so I wonder why Is there such a large price difference?

Does the hp is better quality?

You just missed the Dell outlet sale on the M6600, if you don't mind a refurb. Same warranty of 3 years , just like a new one has. You could have picked up a M6600 with your specs listed for about 1000.00 to 1200.00 They were a bit hard to snag though..
