    Good Morning,

Okay - so which graphic card would an expert now advise for me? Nvidia seems better reg. Optimus. 2 types...

There are 2 applications working i need power - reg. gpu unsure...

    • Adobe Photoshop (primarily batch-processing, scaling of my photos)
    • Phase One Caputure One Pro (supports 4core and 64Bit too)
    • no games...

    Best, Walter

With a decent bag it's really not that bad to move around. Gaming performance is just under the 6970, i've done benchmarks in the owners thread.

Noise is amazing vs the MBP 17 and W520. It's a constant whisper and even playing Crysis on highest settings its not loud.

Heat is good again i've posted temps on the owners thread, 70c is the highest its got to, 40c is the average.

Bottom does get a little warm, but I mean just a little.

If you are literally just working on images in photoshop then you don't need a high end graphics card.

    Therefore it's either:

Get the AMD Firepro which is cheapest and gives the worst battey life

    or

Get the Quadro 3000 for the Optimus, graphics switching.

Absolutely no point of getting the 4000 / 5010.

Walter, I would get the Quadro. Photoshop will be CUDA enabled for most tasks soon. You can download a plugin for preview/saving, other things... if you're using a MF camera with ~40mp files this will speed up your workflow.

Almost all of Adobe's lineup will take advantage of CUDA cards, especially in 5.5/CS6.

    Ordered online

etc - apparently 6 parts are unavailable. Just seems a bit crazy, considering I must have been one of the first (In the USA/World) to order.

Just cancelled the M6600 and ordered a E6520 on Dell Outlet for under $950 delivered. Used the 15% coupon that went live this AM (code= 3SQDWKF8N3Z646). Yes, it is only a 15.6" display and the Nvidia 4200M is not in the same class as the Precision cards, but it is less than half the price of the M6600 and it offers many of the features I need (i7-2720QM, FHD 1080p premium AG display and Intel Quick Sync for transcoding). In the short term, it will do fine. The 3 year warranty was also nice.

Off to the e6520 forum I go!

    Scott-

if you ordered it online, this is a great opportunity to cancel it and reorder over the phone ... I did and saved > $300 ... makes the wait a little less painful.
