Anyone could help me decide on the "workstation class" stereo over "prosumer" DD5.1, considering my intended usage, please?

    TIA, Piotr

If I set "use GPU -> Quadro 2000" I had the problem, if I set "user GPU - Intel" I didn't. It was annoying and I didn't have time to work out why when setting it manually to the Quadro in BIOS averted the problem.

Regarding graphics: Is it possible to switch manually in BIOS to integrated Intel HD during traveling to save battery power? Must go for Quadcore processing power - that needs also more battery power...

    Best, Walter

Apparently not. I asked havotex and he said there is an option on nvidia models to enable and disable optimus but no option for force Intel HD.

The only possible explanation for this is that the NVIDIA cards don't fully shut down the and Intel HD graphics route its output through the NVIDIA card.

If that isn't the case then there should be no reason Dell couldn't implement this in to the next BIOS release.

It certainly is annoying given the potential battery savings.

Optimus works exactly in the opposite direction. The Intel graphics is always on. The display is always filled with data from the Intel graphics memory. What Optimus does is to switch who fills this graphical memory. This can either be the power saving Intel GPU or the powerful NVIDIA GPU.

So I guess that in the case of the AMD cards they are directly connected therefore no possibility to switch :(

Havok covered it earlier in the thread. They could only support one option in the BIOS and they chose to go with Quadro.

They could only support one option in BIOS...

Looks like we'll need to get modding then.

@tomtom2k: Maybe you want to answer me the following questions:

    - how is the overall portability

    - how is the gaming performance? Should be almost as good as a Seager/Clevo 8150 with the ATI

    - how is the noise and heat?

    Thanks.
