its funny, you know, under many lights, it looks orange and I wish it had more of a "redness" to it with the orange. But then last week at work, and usually my room at work is dimly lit, a co worker called it the "big red barn" (hes a mac guy and always ripping on my PCs which are bigger than macs).

Later I told him it wasnt red, but orange and he said "really"?

And then another guy said it looked red in that room.

When I look at it though, it looks orange.

I truly think its a beautiful machine. I love the orange and black and just the sleekness of it. It really exceeded my expectations in many ways.

and I LOVE the light up keyboard and how adjustable it is.
I REALLY wanted that feature dont understand why more PC laptops dont have it.

check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_calibration (also see "color management")
The problem is that the factory do not ship out the screens with correct colours and in general un-.calibrated screens tend be more blue. You may also need to control your color gamut and temperature.. but this really is only important if you do color critical work and you want your screen colors to match printed colors..

...it's a quite complicated topic.. but I hope you have a better understanding of it now :)

Here are some pics I took of my machine which arrived yesterday. I've used an M1730 as a size comparison (it is a big machine itself)

One minor annoying issue that can be seen on the keyboard pic is the fact that keyboard grease has marked the centre of the screen (not the edges, I should have wiped those! :) ) Perhaps I pressed too hard when I shut the lid, I'll keep an eye on this, though it may simply be that the keyboard has to be tightened a little.

    Thanks! Great pics.
I was a bit afraid of the size, I sold an Inspiron 9400 some time ago (same size as the XPS) because it was too huge, but the M6400 made me want an 17" notebook again.

Can you write something about the gloss? The XPS should be a complete glossy screen, the M6400 should only be glossy because of the E2E glass plate. Is there a difference in gloss? Does the matte screen under the glass plate reduce the contrast?

The screen on the M6400 is better than that on the M1730 IMO. On every screen I've owned there is usually a difficulty differentiating with lighter shades (light blues, light greys, near white, pale yellows etc). The screen on the M6400 picks them all out superbly. Contrast on the M6400 looks as good if not better than that of the m17130. As for whether the glossy version has more contrast than the matte version.... I'm waiting for you to answer that! :)

How can you tell? What difference does that make? Thanks
