Im sorry everyone, ignore the other thread. I forgot to put "COVET" in the title so I made another thread.
MODERATOR: please delete the other photo thread I made if you want!!

***I should also note that some of the close screen shots are a little blurry. I wasnt using a camera stand and taking shots with no flash. So like in the sunset shot, dont compare resolution cause the m6400 pic looks blurrier than the 9100 pic. Just compare color and brightness. Sorry, I just noticed this hours later *

Ok, Ive taken some side by side pics.
Old laptop, Dell 9100 15" about 4.5 years old.
    New Laptop - M6400 Covet

As you can see, for me at least, buying this 17" isnt much bigger than the
15" Im used to. Ok, yeah. I wish the power supply wasnt so big but I will still carry this daily with me to work.
I have a backpack by Spire that I LOVE. They make a sleeve that fits this laptop fine and though the backpack I bought isnt SUPPOSED to fit that big of a sleeve, it actually works.
I highly recommend Spire backpacks. My old one for the 9100 has been carried almost Daily for over 4 years with good weight in it and it still really seems like new esp in the strength department.

I am no expert in video card and monitor stuff as Im an audio guy, so I havent tweaked anything with these screens. They are just both set to highest brightness level and as they came. Im not sure how "fair" it is to compare these since one is an LED screen and one is not and right there, you should expect one to be "colder" and one "warmer".
The LED on the m6400 is definately more saturated with color and way brighter. In whites, my old one looks a bit yellowish though it doesnt really show on the pics.
I tried to so some comparison glossy vs matte (9100) screen. Yep, the Covet is glossy as it IS glass after all, but nope, it doesnt bother me a bit. My first glossy screen too.
I tried to show the screen at angles but both these screens seem to have a wide angle range for viewing.

But anyway, I just took some shots. If anyone has any requests let me know. Right now I am in a place with good lighting and stuff so let me know soon. ha ha

I hope these are helpful to someone.

Here they dont look lined up but the Covet has a hinge (black) that sticks out the back of it
    [IMG]

Hmmm they dont look lined up here either, but its just teh camera angle and the fact that the 9100 is "higher".

    ha ha like I said.........

yeah, this is a little depressing. The bigger one is the M6400.

some screen comparison and a shot of the cool trackpad shuttle thing.

Like I said, just as it came, thats all.
I havent done anything to it.
Colors DO look saturated, esp next to my old one.
But I dont know the first thing about "setting up" a screen properly.

    Any recommendations welcome.

also, I should note, I took all the pics displayed on the screen, and the reds in the pic WERE very red - more-so than what it shows on my 9100.
I WOULD say the m6400 is more like what the reality was at that concert, but I still think the colors seem saturated.

what i did was to turn the brightness up to max-

open up the nvidia control panel and adjust the individual red/green/blue channels in the desktop color settings till i thought they looked ok.

also try dead pixel buddy, a quick way of filling your screen full of color http://www.laptopshowcase.co.uk/downloads.php?id=1

i suppose color is a very subjective subject, lol.
what looks right to one person, looks awfull to another :)

Thanks for the screen shots. I am still waiting for my Covet. Can't wait to play with it. Though my order has been delayed and now supposedly won't get it until before Christmas. =(

The Covet screen does look very red, whereas the 9100 looked a bit too bluish. Has anyone tried to calibrate his/her Covet display yet?

I understand from the tech spec that this screen covers 100% of the color gamut, but what does that mean in real life. What are some definite advantages that a regular user could appreciate compared to the old CCFL screens. Thanks for all the info.

Trust me, you WILL notice the diff! :)

The best way i can describe the way the colors spring out is it's as if there are individual lights behind all the diff colors, so the contrast between them is far greater.

    hope that makes sense:confused: lol

i too am an owner of a 9100 and am definately going to purchase a covet after seeing the comparisons, thanks a million for the review :)

one question tho, how is the battery life, some people mention 1.5 hours, others 2, what is your experience so far?

Could you also post the spec of the covet you have?

    Thanks again

P.S. what size sleeve did you get that fits the covet?

Well its not a "review" cause then Id have to include that Im having some really annoying:

    wireless problems.
I have the Dell 1510 card and it will not connect when I reboot. I always have to manually connect and then sometimes it will get "stuck" in only connecting locally to the router but not the internet, but I just keep renewing the numbers and after about 10 minutes, it decides to work.
Wireless basically very unstable at my job and at home (one secured router, one not).

And you may have seen my other thread where the whole internal framing had to be replaced due to stripped out screw holes (NOT my doing).

And I may have a problem with not recognizing the power supply after the repair but its intermittent and I have the latest bios.

I have not tested battery life yet. But after using my 9100 with about 7 minutes for a long time, anything over 30 minutes gets me excited.

And as you can see, if youre used to carrying around the 9100, this one really isnt that much bigger and not heavier. Its wider but WAY thinner.
Besides a macbook I dont know a 17" that is this thin and packs ANYWHERE NEAR this much into such a great solid computer.

This really is my dream machine. I only wish it had Blue-ray cause I wanted to finally own a blue-ray drive. I dont have an HDTV so I dont have a player yet.

    REGARDING THE SLEEVE:

If youre looking at the Spire stuff (and they make other bags besides backpacks and also have a sister site for female designed stuff).
They sell whats called a BOOT. Its a sleeve and it comes with any backpack. They used to have a "punch in your laptop and well tell you what size" thing but I would just recommend contacting them.
Here are the sizes. (click here and click on "specs"
    http://spireusa.com/products/BT8.htm

The thing is, I have the largest one. Which is the F. This is because I had a 17" Alienware a year ago and then that laptop didnt work out but I was out of return time for that backpack and sleeve. That laptop was a bit thicker than this one so an E size boot MAY work with this laptop. Not sure. Theres definately a little room in mine so its best to ask them which is best.
The F boot isnt made to fit in the Torq backpack - but it does if the laptop isnt too long. the Torq has 3 compartments. The middle one is for the boot and laptop. But the Size F boot DOES fit in the 3rd compartment. Spire told me this would work although its not their OFFICIAL size recommendations. But the larger backpack is too big.
So I have the Torq backpack and the F boot - but you may be able to get away with the E boot which will fit in to the "correct" compartment in the Torq - but frankly, it doesnt seem to matter. I couldnt be happier with it.
This laptop or boot for it will NOT fit in the Volt backpack though. I have that one for the 9100 and its definately too small.

Hope this helps. This companies stuff is just as strong as it gets. I truly cant even believe my old one is still in the shape its in.
They all come in a few colors too! You dont have to get the orange you see on their page - though it WOULD match this thing I guess ;)

Oh, and the choices in config I got are:

Vista Ultimate 32bit (I cant run 64bit w software I have to run)
    QX9300 Processor
    4GB Ram (2 Dimms)
    250GB 7200 drive
200GT 7200 drive (2nd drive bought elsewhere and installed by me)
    Dell 1510 Wireless card
    Bluetooth 410 card
    Internal Fingerprint Reader

And since this is SORT of turning into some sort of review a little.

It NEEDS to be said that customer support for this thing has been unlike anything Ive EVER experienced. It has to be because this is a business machine and a top end one at that. They have to keep people going in businesses. But I always am calling someone in America (even at 3 in the morning) and Ive dealt with 3 different guys who are all WAY beyond helpful. If it needs service, they send the part to a local 3rd party repair company the next day and that person calls you to make an appointment for a house call.
My only gripe was that the guy didnt have instructions on dissasembly and had to call Dell when I can easily find them on the Dell site myself. But the guy WAS competent and careful with the system. He has obviously worked on many Dell systems and many computers in general.

So yes, its a lot of money, but everything about this system including the customer service REALLY makes you feel your money went to something.

Ive NEVER had such good CS support from any major tech company.
