    No this is incorrect.
The QHD display comes with the necessary antennas pre-installed. Also the SIM card reader is there. It uses Micro SIMs

It is just that Dell doesn't want to sell it. I made them ship me the DW5570 seperately and installed it myself. It works just fine under Windows but still needs some work under Linux.

There is a problem in the BIOS though (at least until A6, can't check A7). The BIOS itself doesn't detect the card, unless you briefly run the on-board diagnostics beforehand. On the next reboot the BIOS will see the card.
Unfortunately A7 is not a viable option since it cripples the performance of the M4800.

...assuming you aren't using the power supply that came with it.

Precision laptops generally refresh about once every 1.25-1.5 years. They follow Intel's release cycle. When Intel Broadwell CPUs begin to appear, updated Precisions will follow a few months later.

It looks like the gap between Haswell and Broadwell is going to be a little longer than the past few cycles, with CPUs not appearing until the end of the year or maybe early 2015. So, Precision M4900/M6900 is probably a year away yet.

(Just my take on things, anything could happen. I was pretty much right on with guesses for M6700 and M6800 timeline, though.)

I currently have two 4GB memory modules installed.
I'm looking to upgrade because I run into low memory issues quite often.
    What's my best upgrade option?
Buy another pair of 4GB modules, or buy an additional pair of 8GB modules to result in a total of 24GB?
Is there a negative impact when matching a pair of 4GB and a pair of 8GB? Or can you match 4+8 in one bay, and 4+8 in another bay?

Make sure the speed and CL ratings match and you'll be fine with different sizes. (Put the matching modules in the same bay.)

Sure. I have about 6 power supplies from My D800 and D830 plus another 2 of the E series 130W power supplies.
Do you think I or any other person who upgrades would just throw away those power supplies? Especially when they worked perfectly up until and including the A6 BIOS?
The 180/240W power supplies cost upwards of 4 times the price of the older ones if you check on Ebay for example.

Only the A7 BIOS started crippling the machines artificially.

Calm down, no one is telling you to throw old power supplies away. I gave my old 130W to a coworker and bought a dock on eBay, which came with a 240W power supply. It took a little looking, but was hardly difficult to find, or particularly pricey. Is there any advantage to having six power supplies instead of 2?

I realize that A7 behaves differently from A6, but it's hardly surprising since Dell has done this sort of thing before, as you noted. Juts roll back, and wait for A8...

Anyone notice that their USB 3.0 ports are extremely slow? I'm getting speeds read write speeds that are more in line with USB 2.0. I'm using a sandisk USB 3.0 thumbdrive. I've also checked the thumbdrive on my MacBook Air, and I get the speeds I'd expect from USB 3.0.

I have the 256GB SSD on my m4800.

Ehich OS are you on? I believe win 7 requires installing some drivers, while they're integrated into 8/8.1. Could that be it maybe?
