My M4800 with QHD screen arrived yesterday and I too have the lid close problem. Just spent a fruitless day on the telephone & Dellconnect remote access with Dell technical support who now want to replace the K2100 and/or reinstall Windows:mask:. I am in two minds whether to keep the thing or send it back.
Dell technical support chap denied any issues with the M4800/QHD combo and had no idea it did not support Optimus until I showed him the threads on here. It all seems pretty unprofessional. If anyone has a QHD M4800 which does not have the lid close problem I would be very interested too so please speak up.

Try disabling LPM (in the intel RST application, and the windows power settings).

info why no optimus: Why the Precision Mobile Workstation M4800 systems may not have a Switchable Graphics BIOS option | Dell US

and heres info on lid issues: http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...after-closing-opening-lid-windows7-x64-4.html

I just want to know if it affects 1080P screens if it does its a last dell I bought.

forced to think about MB after 10 years of dodging it.

Lenovo is dead for me too, as its plagued by other issues, and their quality of materials used are not up to my standard (or anyone elses for that matter especially those who are used to real thinkpad feel).

thinkpads ended for me on T400 and W500, after that its all cheap and unreliable.
(check the video link in my sig. those are tutorials on servicing, you can see the insides of all their laptops latest are all plastic and aluminum foils instead of copper and magnesium)

My dream is that those on this forum who have good tech experience and understanding what is essential what is not for portable workstation could propose the chassis and hardware design to manufacturers. So that they are not compromising on durability and reliability vs quality. (i have a dream) :)

    full metal jacket, check
    modular design, check
good screen with protection, (matte gorilla glass), Check
recyclable, check = metal, pcb= less plastic.

I disabled LPM in the Intel rapid Storage Tech settings (still had lid close issue afterwards). Then I tried to change to access Dell Power Manager and was greeted by "An unexpected fatal error occurred.......". So still trying to decide whether to
    a. return the quirky M4800 and take my chances with the Lenovo/MBP competition:cry:
    b. allow Dell engineers to replace the innards
    c. return and replace with an M4800 with the FHD display
    d. Live with it
Interested to hear what others have done and if anyone with the K2100 and QHD option has any different experiences which would sway me towards option b.
    cheers

I had dell replace "innards", no luck, same issues, actually engineer bricked it inadvertently or advertently.

I have the FHD screen. I'm running Linux (Linux Mint 16 MATE 64-bit specifically), not Windows, but the problems seem to be BIOS-level and sleep/resume issues are notoriously common with Linux (to the point where I'm not sure if they fixed the thing where 'hibernate' didn't function at all). I had to swap video card drivers as the open-source nVidia one has some problems, but after that, no problems on sleep/resume at all - it's actually very snappy about coming back from sleep.

And an update in the great saga of 'I hate Broadcom wireless cards', the Intel one I got for $10 on Amazon showed up yesterday, and took me all of five minutes to install (seriously loving how easy it is get to the guts after my Alienware) - connected to my home network right away (the Broadcom had been trying and failing at this for a week), though the real test will be to see if it can get the WPA network at school - Linux support for that is iffy.

I don't have DPM, since I did a clean Windows install and didn't feel the need for it. I would check your windows power settings - there's a checkbox for LPM there as well.

here we are dealing with bios level issue relating to QHD, so I wanted to know if FHD screen makes a difference? (all under w7 or 8 or 8.1)

I think the Dell tech uninstalled DPM when he was trying to help on Dellconnect as it's no longer available. I have disabled LPM via Windows but the lid close problem persists. Any other settings I could try?
If your machine is working fine then I am tempted to let Dell come round and attempt a fix as you've pretty much the same specs as mine except I am on Windows7

I've had some weirdness when on AC but for the most part it's fine. What are your settings for when you close the lid on battery and AC?

Not sure if it's relevant but I only use balanced and high performance profiles.
