Just tried this, my display doesn't turn off when I close the lid in the bios so when opening the screen, it's actually on.

In Windows if I close my display(sleep) and open it, it turns back on no problem.

    Specs: M4800, i7 4800MQ, 8GB Ram, Quadro K2100M, QHD+ 3200x1800 Display, Windows 8.1.

I'm actually about to sell my laptop since I bought an Alienware recently, so sadly I won't be an owner of the M4800 no more. I actually plan to put it in the marketplace here today.

    Thank you for testing this!
Could you please check your motherboard version using CPU-Z (CPU-Z CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting) and attach screen shot ?

    This is mine:

    Thank you!

Mine stayed black when I reopened the lid. I tried hitting Esc, and the system restarted (not entirely sure if the button triggered the restart, or was merely coincidental). On restart, I was able to log in, but it went unresponsive almost immediately. I did a hard restart, got logged in again, and got a blue screen, which then shut off without warning before completing the crash dump. On restarting again, Windows didn't start normally (got the option of startup repair or try restarting again - restarting again worked fine.

Thank you ! Your motherboard is the same revision as mine. May be I should ask for another replacement from Dell?

Thank you! I guess your M4800 is having exactly the same issue as mine. Hitting ESC while in bios just restarts the computer - so it is normal that you've got your screen back.

What video driver are you guys using? When I had the precision I ran the latest from nvidia, however even with the re-installed os and the drivers from dell, it still comes back from sleep properly.

The latest from Dell, I believe. My machine comes back from sleep properly, but I guess not while in the BIOS, which doesn't bother me.

Fmark, can I ask why you might need to close and reopen the lid while in the BIOS?

I'm not closing and opening the lid in BIOS. :) I asked to try it in BIOS because it is a simplest way to check whether your laptop suffers from the "Blank screen" issue.

For me the problem is that I have setting "When I close the lid" in Power options set to "Do Nothing". I want my laptop to stay ON when I close the lid (background tasks needs to continue to run) even with lid closed.
However when when I open the lid after closing - I get black screen and the only way to get it back is by putting laptop to sleep or power it down. Very annoying.

But I don't seem to have the "blank screen issue" under normal use, so maybe it's not the best way to test?
