Nevermind...I think I got it. I had done a bunch of backups and created a factory install disk before the migration and was able to reinstall everything. Seems to be working right now and I now see the RECOVERY partition.

Not really sure. I went with a clean 8.1 install on my SSD so I could have the space for a little over provisioning.

Edit: didn't see your second post. Glad to hear you figured it out!

Been using the m4800 for three weeks now. But I find it quite disturbing the fans operate even when performing low end tasks. Such as: having Adobe Dreamweaver and a few browser windows opened. Is this normal? When I compare this to the Latitude I upgraded from, I can't but notice this isn't a step up as I had hoped for. It really looks like a huge step back. If this is 'normal' operating sound coming from the fans, this laptop is a burden in meetings.
While I'm writing this CPU load is at best 1%, Memory at 3.8 GB and the fans won't power down.
I'm aware this is a workstation, but when doing close to nothing, one might assume it doesn't need to utilize fans to cool down CPU/GPU or any other hardware part.

I think it is normal. When I had my M4800 the fans were always on but the lower-pitched noise didn't bother me and I was happy the fan was always on. I'm not sure which Latitude you had, but on my E6410 I hated how the fans were set up. The fans didn't turn on until around 55-60C, and when they did there was an abrupt noise where everyone around you could tell your fans were spinning up. I could overlook that, but what irritated me the most was how much heat the bottom collected while the fans were off; it was not good for lap use.

Unfortunately I don't think there will be a solution to this for you (if you complain to Dell enough it may be on a future BIOS update, but I doubt it), but just be aware this is a fully "lap-able" computer, even at 100% load, which I guess is the trade-off for the fans being on.

Previous one was an e6520. It's true that those laptops are not really lap-friendly. But still... would be nice for the m4800 to activate fans a little later (or have the option to tweak this setting).Earlier today while watching a HD movie, I noticed fans were triggered after 5 minutes...

Anyhow, this workstation is really fast, can't complain about that.

This has been normal with Precision at least back to M4600/M6600. You can fix it somewhat by looking for the Dell-specific settings in Windows power management "advanced" setting --- there is an option to control the fan speed, and I have mine set to "Quiet (Reduced fan levels)" when on the "balanced" profile. (If you're using the "High performance" profile, switch to "Balanced" which will also keep the CPU from going into turbo mode, unless you need the extra CPU power.) I think it would be better if the fan didn't kick in with such a sudden "whirrrr". But really, hopefully you can get used to it and it won't be a big deal after a few weeks.

    Can anybody connect m4800 QHD+ with external monitor (2560x1440 or 2560x1600 )?

Since I recived my Dell M4800 with FHD display the impression has been a bit mixed. When I bought the computer I just thought it was a good 1080p (FHD) IPS display in it. But from the first time i booted up the M4800 I think the quality of the display has been a bit tedious. A friend in school bought the Dell M3800 with high density display and its such a joy in comparison not just because of all the pixels but every thing that a screen should look like.

The screen in my M4800 is a LG LP156WFC if i check with HWiNFO64. Terrible display I have to say. The blue tint is just amazingly strong, I've changed the color temparture way down from 6500-4500 a big change and now the screen is ok for my eyes. When viewing the screen If you rise your view a bit the white becomes cyan colored,

Yeah yeah :) , much to complain about ;)

Anyway its seams really easy compared to other laptop to change the display so not big effort to do that. But what panel should I choose? Hope an IPS display is compatible since I really like them. Will start searching and hope I find a really good IPS display. Would be great with an even better display then the one that is in Asus models like the N56JR

    EDIT:
Hope that you are satisfied with your screen seams that it has been produced for a while since 2009. I really have no clue why dell choose to have TN panel's on their Precisiion laptop at all. The mounting of the screen differes from all the IPS display that I can find, to bad, seams to me that this computer has "side mounting holes" (8-m2), 8 screws 2mm wide i guess. All the IPS is mounted on the up and bottom side. Correct me if I'am wrong, would gladly be that
