I just received my m4800. Installed a new Samsung ssd and did a fresh install of Windows 7 on it. everything works fine. But I couldn't figure out which driver/application is responsible for brightness control,... GUI. I installed Dell power management and precision performance optimizer, but still have no gui for controls. Any help?

With AMD GPUs you can only connect two non-DisplayPort monitors (including the internal display). You can connect more than two monitors if you use DisplayPort connections (on the system or on the dock). If using a monitor with an adapter connected to the DisplayPort, it must be an "active" adapter to count here. (You can also get an active DisplayPort->DVI adapter rather cheap.)

With NVIDIA GPUs you can connect whatever you want. I use three external monitors plus the internal display at work.

(This is assuming the M4800 works the same as the previous generation, M4700/M6700. I haven't actually seen a spec sheet on how many monitors the M4800 can use. Specifically, if you have an AMD card with Enduro enabled, the internal display and the VGA port will probably run off of the Intel GPU which means you can still connect extra non-DisplayPort monitors to the system.)

Is it possible to use older chargers (e.g. Latitude 6 series) with the m4800?
It will probably take quite a while to charge the battery but does it affect lifespan of the m4800 battery?

I think it depends on the wattage. The M4800 wants a 180W charger. Less will charge slowly and possibly throttle. Even less might not charge while the machine is on.

    Hello everyone,

How about running times on qhd+ on a 9-cell battery?
Are they similar to those from notebookcheck (over 5hours idle?)
Is qhd+ going better on win 8 or 7?

Is the qhd+ worth buying over fhd with optimus?

    i'm doing mostly cad work.

I'm getting 3-4 hours typically, more like three when actively using CAD.

I picked up a dock for work with a 200W charger and I have the 180W it came with at home, so I haven't found it to be much of a limitation.

I wish it had Optimus, but I needed a machine, so I didn't find it a deal breaker.

I have my M4800 plugged into a docking station almost permanently. I only move it once every few months.

Should I remove the battery to conserve battery life?
