Great...thanks! I didn't think Precision would include much but would like a clean slate anyway.

    Thanks for the tip!

Also considering the caddy. I bought an original caddy through Dell for my E65xx series latitude, but the spinning of the second HDD affects the entire laptop. Quiet but very irritating continious vibrations.
How about the caddy from newmodeus in combination with the m4800?

I've found it very quiet and haven't really noticed any vibration etc. yet but haven't been using it too heavily. The caddy attaches to a small bracket with two screws and one more connects the bracket to the chassis.

It's pretty vibration free compared to the optical drive with a disc in it.

Sorry for double posting. I posted this question in a separate thread, but unfortunately nobody replied.
Hopefully M4800 owners could help me. I'll delete the other thread if I get answer here. Thanks.
    =========================================================================

    I just received Dell Precision M4800 (i7-4900MQ, NVIDIA Quadro K2100M w/2GB GDDR5, 8GB 1600MHz DDR3L, QHD+ (3200x1800), 500GB HDD) and I'm having a very weird problem.

In power options I have set "When I close the lid - Do nothing".
But when I close the lid and open it again, screen stays black.
The only way to get screen back (that I found so far) is to put computer to Sleep (Power button) and then Wake it up with Power button again.

I already did the following :

    - updated BIOS to A06
    - uninstalled and installed NVidia drivers from Dell and from NVidia website
    - played with all kind of Power settings

If I uninstall NVidia drivers, then I don't have this problem. So I suspect that the problem is with the NVidia drivers.

Could somebody with M4800 please test this on his(her) computer.
All you need to do is - set option "When I close the lid" to 'Do Nothing' in "Control Panel -> Power Options -> Choose what closing the lid does".

Or may be you can advice how to fix the issue.

    Thanks in advance!
    Mark

Thanks for the response, neither A05 nor A06 resolved my USB issue. Time for a support call I guess. :(

    hi again,

i just received my m4800, put in a new 250GB ssd as primary hardrive, installed windows and then all the drivers that came with the driver-cd (dvd?). i am noticing a few problems, all of which have shown up with the original windows install AND the clean windows install on my new SSD.

    - wireless internet is working but only for random amounts of time. I have full connection yet after 5-40 minutes internet connection is lost. I am still connected to the router but not to the internet. I tried changing the router settings (wap, no channel switching) and the network settings (turned off tcp/ip 6, manually entered IP etc. in tcp/ip 4) but to no avail, still cuts me off the internet at random times. all the other pcs/macs in the house work fine internetwise. also, downloaded wifi driver from dell (dell wireless 1550 802.11ac --> driver version 6.30.223.75), still the same problem.

    - sleep mode problem (similar to fmark). when the notebook goes to sleep, i can only wake it up by pressing the power button (i was expecting it to wake up with tapping a key or touching the touchpad/touchpad buttons). when it does wake up, the touchpad doesnt work. I need to do a forced power off (press power button for a few secs) and then restart. EDIT: i just installed latest quadro (quadro k1100m) driver from nvidia page and that seems to have done the trick. notebook still only wakes up when i press the power button though.

    any ideas? thx!

I think this is a correct behavior for the Sleep. At least this is how it works on my M4400 - you can wake it up only by pressing Power button.

My problem is a little different. I have setting set to 'Do nothing' when I close the Lid and open it again, however after closing and opening the Lid, screen does not turn ON.

josambs, could you please test it on your computer ? Define in power settings "Do Nothing" when you close the lid and try to close and open the lid. Do you get Black screen or it works as expected and screen turns On fine after you re-open the lid?
    Thanks!

Same with M6700 --- you can only wake it from sleep using the power button. I know some machines will wake when you open the lid, I personally don't like that behavior. Can't say I've ever noticed a machine wake from sleep with keyboard/touchpad activity, except for a Mac, but maybe there are machines out there that do that.

I had this problem ("I have setting set to 'Do nothing' when I close the Lid and open it again, however after closing and opening the Lid, screen does not turn ON."), but found it went away with one of the earlier BIOS updates.
