Wait... yeah, lol. For some reason my mind was connecting "switchable graphics off" with "Intel HD + dGPU". Sorry, I am sleeping yet, so yeah, removing CMOS battery will be enough and just disregard everything I said before.

And I had the same issue with my Zbook 17 + WX 4150. The only way to solve this issue was using Notebook Fan Monitor and doing some settings myself (using Elitebook 8760w for default since "Zbook 15" option was not detecting fan speeds properly).

If you have this card available, it will work like a charm with your M4800, so yeah, just do it. Just don't deactivate switchable graphics before flashing dell vbios or you will have the same black screen.

It'll need a bit of a heatsink extension to have the GPU cooled adequately, as there are some components on the board that can get really hot and melt the speaker plastic above it compared to the M5100. I need to have that figured out before I can actually do it. I'm going to try Ubuntu on the Precision and see where it leads.

I know. I used thermal pads with electric tape. It's not the most beautiful thing, but it seems to be working.

Last week only I saw two listings on ebay of M4800s with defective speakers. One was for only $155. It's a shame that I didn't have any money available because it has an eDP screen.

Made a USB stick of Ubuntu. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't on the internal display, so the possibility here is either M5100 doesn't like 120Hz or the firmware doesn't like the 120Hz. It's still weird that it works intermittently. I can get it to work if I plug in the HDMI and reboot. But if I shut off, unplug HDMI and turn it on, the panel doesn't work.

I think it's best I leave the iGPU on regardless.

Oh dear, since re-enabling switchable graphics I've lost the ability to go from 120 to 60hz in battery. It's always in 120hz either battery or AC. Ouch. Not even the Intel utility lets me add a custom resolution to have 60, now.

Did this start right after the new screen or did you use normally for a while? If it's the first option, yeah, it would be the screen itself and you have to replace gpu anyway. I heard M5100 has some issues with 4k screens, but I have no idea about 120hz.

And sorry, I didn't know that it would change this type of configuration (120hz to 60hz on battery). Maybe that's a option in the bios?

Happened when I turned off SG, booted into Windows to see what happens and rebooted again to enable SG. The behaviour disappeared after that.

Unlikely you can get 64gb working. You're limited to 32GB by the processor I think.

It'd be nice if it was possible though.

Is there anyone who would like to experiment with this new 16GB stick from Micron?? :)

The system was limited to 32GB because the max single laptop RAM stick available at that time was 8GB.
But now we have 16GB. Maybe there's a way to try 64GB.
