This is probably because of the dual-GPU setup. If graphics switching is enabled in the BIOS, the Intel GPU drives the laptop built-in display, but (most) external displays are driven by the discrete GPU... and the BIOS will only be active on an Intel-GPU connected display.

    Try:
    * In the BIOS, find the option for "enable discrete display output" (or some such) which is right next to the toggle for turning graphics switching on or off. This will allow one of the dock display ports to connect directly to the Intel GPU.
    * On PR02X, make sure that your external monitor is connected to the DVI/DisplayPort that is closer to the parallel and serial ports, not the one that is closer to the DC power port.

...Alternatively, you could just disable graphics switching which would make everything connect to the discrete GPU; a simpler configuration, but you'd lose out on the power savings from graphics switching. If you toggle graphics switching on or off, then the display drivers in Windows will have to be reinstalled. This usually happens automatically but not until a minute or two after bootup, so you might notice external displays not working and poor graphics performance until the drivers get sorted out.

(You should have the BIOS set to UEFI boot mode and not legacy boot mode, that is the appropriate setup for modern OS's. If you switch between UEFI or legacy boot then you will have to reinstall the OS.)

Nice! Got it all working now...

So the "Enable discrete display output" is actually called "Enable Dock DP Port1 for Post". I had tried it before, but only with the lid open (which means the display will be automatically on the laptop instead of the external screen - duh!).

Fun fact (for anyone else running into this issue): On the PR02X I had to connect the external monitor to the DVI port closer to the power port and NOT the one closer to the parallel port. With the M4500 it was indeed the other way round. Go figure.

    Thanks for the quick help!

I was checking with my Precision 7510 which is apparently opposite of the M4800... the port closer to the parallel port is connected to the iGPU. Nice to know that they are all different, apparently...

Have you guys tried Micron's 8GB 1866MHz RAM cards on M4800?

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/254927622319

You can buy 32GB (8GB x4) 1866MHz Micron laptop RAM cards for only $110 now!
If they work on M4800, I will buy them.

I haven't tried that specific Micron modules but I can only say that 4 x 8GB G.Skill 1866 Mhz CL11 are running absolutely fine in my M4800 (and they also did so in my M6700 before) with full clockspeed. Still the performance increase is minimal at best.

The price of your posted offer is very good right now :) I'm also thinking about ordering these but right now there is no machine available to put them into on my side ;)

Thanks for confirming that! I will order them now.
It looks like many of DDR3 rams are becoming cheaper.
I remember 32GB DDR3 rams used to cost $200. But not anymore!

Only kicker they don't ship to the UK, so UK owners of the M4800 will miss out.

If you guys don't care about 1866 MHz, there is also this deal here:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/363351443844

I didn't test it yet because I'm waiting for its arrival (it's probably coming Friday or so), but I don't think I'll have any issues.

I don't know why they're not allowing to deliver to the UK for these RAM modules... I kinda want them.
