This advise is misleading. The NVIDIA GPU will always show no matter what BIOS setting you choose. If you have switchable graphics on, you will see the Intel GPU and NVIDIA GPU; with it off, NVIDIA GPU only.
Unfortunately I cannot offer any advise for your issue. If the card is not showing in the BIOS then I've gotta think that either the card or motherboard has an issue. The system can operate without the discrete GPU installed (Intel GPU only).

Thank you, guys... There is no such option as discrete graphics. In the video setting there is switchable (always enabled, probably because it can't detect the Nvidia card).
The usage will be mostly VMs (that was the criteria: quad core and min 16GB) and some personal stuff (Office, browsing,etc...), but I connect external monitors which are VGA and HDMI.
The HDMI port is not working (known issue at buying time), I wonder if this HDMI port can work with the Intel 4600 or should seek for additional hardware (another GPU or a DP to HDMI converter).

Without the NVIDIA GPU functioning, I'm not sure if the DisplayPort will work. VGA should work though...?

That is correct, none of the digital ports will work because they are routed to the discrete gpu, only the analog vga port will work

    Thanks, again. Yes, VGA works.
Right now I'm checking the other thread on GPU replacement... I'm not sure I would need one of the more expensive cards, as my requirement is mostly screen real estate (In terms of number if windows opened simultaneusly I'm a real digital hoarder)... well, and the occasional video on HDMI

Nice to see you, I have a new ips panel at the post office, and parts on the way.
New back panel only, assembly is not able to buy new.
Used back panel assembly which includes antennas, hinges for pcba mounted lcd panel and middle duct and webcam/mic assembly.
New bezel for A146J1 slim back assembly.
    New bottom panel.

Next time I will buy a keyboard bezel and maybe a battery, not really prioritied as it sits in its dock all day anyway.
I have specs of particles behind the polarizer so I now have dots on the screen, sometimes moving in and out of sight and the backlight is not persistant when going from dark to bright objects so its time to replace it..
More details will come when I replace all parts

Specs in mine from Dell Refurbished (B grade):
    i7 4800MQ
    8GB RAM (2x4GB 1866Mhz)
    250GB HDD
    1080p Display
    AMD FirePro M5100

    I'm planning on hopefully sourcing a 4930MX from a friend along with 32GB 1600Mhz RAM (4x8GB)

Will add SSD for sure and probably add in my 1TB HDD and remove the 250GB

Also wanna get the backlit keyboard. I remember buying the max spec M4800 in 2013, kinda missed it.

I also want to try and find a brand new palm rest with the FIPS fingerprint reader but so far only bad condition ones on eBay.

I'll calibrate the display with my colorimeter and see if the display is bearable. I heard it supports the 4K display but only certain motherboards? 99% sure my motherboard is the first revision.

If anyone has a link to the palm rest with FIPS fingerprint new condition or excellent let me know.

Part number you are looking for is JMG30 assembly, note "assembly" which includes all components on the palmrest, otherwise you will get just a big chunk of plastic with holes in it.
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32968584728.html
Fingerprint reader part is HUC03 but it is included in the assembly

I recently bought a new bottom chassis and palmrest from aliexpress and it made a huge difference to have a fresh start.
Yes I have backlit keyboard that I bought later, as the original keyboard was US layout and in bad condition, it is a life saver compared to thinkpad classic light over the screen which is kind of useless.
I have mine maxed out atm with the 4940MX, M5100, delta fans, 32GB ram 1600..1800mhz is almost impossible to find at a resonable price and I don't think it make a huge difference.
I did not choose the 4K res due to if you do, the intel gma will be disabled because it did not gain support for higher resolutions years later.
Now it does support that so for example on a modern precision 5540 it does support switchable gpu.

Anyone know of any smart cards I can buy to enable windows smart card authentication for windows login?

Thanks! But yikes....$81.11 shipped for the palm rest with reader..that's a 1/3 of my laptop's cost lol

Any other places that might have it? I tried eBay but they don't. At least that aliexpress one is new.
