OK, it seems that I have another problem. The laptop came with 2 x's Micron 4gb MT8KTF51264HZ-1G6N1 memory. I had 2 sticks of Ramaxel RMT3170ME68F9F1600 4gb that I tried to install.

What happens is that the system will see only the Ramaxle sticks, no matter if they are installed under the keyboard or in the bottom slots. According to the data sheets, both types of memory have the same speed and latency. Both are 1.35v. I tested both sets with MemTest for an half hour each and there were no errors.

Is this a problem with the motherboard or the memory. Having owned many Dell laptops, I know that they can be techy about their memory. I'm planning to use this laptop for compiling, so the extra memory is a must. I've found the Ramaxel sticks on eBay for $17.00 USD each, so I'm willing to spend the money if the consensus is that they need to be matched sticks.

    Thanks

In previous M4*00 models only two DIMM Slots were supported with DualCore CPU in use and I'm pretty sure also the M4800 will behave that way with an non QM-CPU like yours.

Correct, four-core CPU is required to use four memory slots. Two-core CPU gets two memory slots. (Fortunately, this is the last generation where it is easy to upgrade the CPU...)

Thanks for the replies everyone. (sigh), I guess I'll have to upgrade my CPU, (I say it like it's a bad thing!;)). The other question that I have involves a screen upgrade. My laptop came with a Dell 0W6WD / Samsung LTN156AT32, 1366 x 768. This LCD has a 40 pin connector. Although I know that the screen upgrade is supposed to be a straight pop in upgrade, I had problems upgrading the screen my E6540. My motherboard part # is 0T3YTY. I did some research and it seems that there are at least 4 different motherboards 3's for this machine.

Does anyone know if a screed upgrade is possible for this motherboard? The laptop came with a Firepro 5100.

    Thanks!

You can upgrade the screen. You will have to find out if your M4800 has LVDS or eDP output on the motherboard. Units shipped with both types of output. You will have to buy a screen of the same type. I believe that LVDS will max out at 1080p.

    Thanks Aaron44126,

Is there a way to tell which type of output that I have without disassembling the laptop??

(EDIT) According to the spec sheet here:

    http://www.panelook.com/LTN156AT32-L01_Samsung_15.6_LCM_parameter_19709.html

The laptop takes a 40 pin LVDS. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good 1920 x 1080? I've found several listed on this thread, not sure what's the best choice.

After a lot of Googling, I've found that the B156HW01 V4 and the B156HW02 V1 are both LVDS. I'll do more research on the 2 and find out which one give a better picture/viewing angles.

Plus go through the 200+ post on this thread again!

(EDIT) OK, I'm going to go with the B156HW01 V.4 LCD. My current video cable is a

    VAQ10_LVDS_CABLE (HD-WIRE)
    P/N DC02001QJ00 REV.1 9A00)
    Wanshih 2013/03/29

Will this cable be OK, or do I need to upgrade it?

My Dell m4800 fan 1 stopped working i dont know why but i heard that might be because of the bios (update) and that could be be solved by resetting the bios so i was wondering how to reset the bios and if any suggestion for the problem

You can reset the BIOS by unplugging the system, removing the battery, and then removing the coin-cell battery (easily accessible after you remove the bottom cover) for a few moments.
If this happened randomly (not after a BIOS update) then it is more likely that the fan has failed. You'll have to source another one (they are readily available on eBay).

Does anyone have issues with the Intel 7260 dropping out very often (especially after sleep)?
