M4800 Owner's Thread

I don't currently have one, but when I did it came with the LG LP156WF4-SPD1 (not sure about the SPD1 part but the first part I am sure of).

The display was alright but it has issues with blue tint at the very bottom of the screen, and there was some banding in solid colors with the intel graphics enabled. I tried out an AUO B156HAN01.2 and it was much better.

Im still reading this thread but still didnt make any final decision for myself. What are main pros and disadvantages of 1080IPS and 4K UHD IGZO screens? What video chip is better: AMD m5100 or nvidia k2100m? According to tests m5100 slightly faster, but nvidia driver and CUDA availability are more useful and convenient. Thanks.

 

I don't know much about workstation gpu's but I assume it would come down to whether you need CUDA or not. If you need CUDA, go k1100m or k2100m. If you don't need CUDA and want to save some money, go m5100. If you plan on playing any games, the m5100 is the best for that.

I've read that the 4k IGZO screen for the m4800 is really good, but you sacrifice optimus/enduro for it - the dedicated GPU will be on all the time. I don't know how the 4k screen in this model compares to the new 7510, though.

 

Thank you. I have read optimus/enduro is not available for QHD+ (3K). Never heard about real 4K though. I cant find any valuable written or video review.

 

I while back in this thread I asked the same thing, and a user with the 4k confirmed that they didn't have the option in the bios for optimus/enduro.

Thanks Aaron - this seems to have worked. I haven't lost sound after various combinations of docking, undocking, sleep, and hibernation.

For anyone who wants to try the same thing: Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers, right-click the device, Update Driver Software -> Browse my computer... -> Let me pick from a list...

 

So I read through most of the pages and it says the m4800 has been tested with an external 4k and another display. I'm currently running 2 1440p displays off the docking stations two DP ports. Can I add a 3rd 1440p external display or will that not be supported over HDMI? Anyone tested that setup.

 

You can't use the HDMI port while docked. (Even if you can physically plug into it which would be difficult, internally, the same electronics that drive the HDMI port are used to drive one of the HDMI/DVI connections on the dock.) There is no HDMI port on the dock.

Your choices for attaching three external displays depend on which GPU you have.
AMD GPU: You can attach three external displays with DisplayPort (two on dock and one on system)
NVIDIA GPU: You can attach two external displays with DisplayPort, third one has to be VGA
