    Hi Dellienware!

I am indeed interested, can I direct / private message you for more information? Can we discuss via email?

This could be a fantastic alternative for what I need done.

    Thank you!

Reach me here in my ad:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/com...ell-mobile-graphics-card-practically-new.html

Probably because you don't have enough posts the forum doesn't let you send direct messages. So just reply on that ad thread.

Glad to hear that Dell are willing to help you. So it seems you might buy K1100M somewhere else (including the right heatsink?), and they would still send you the tech to help you replace it…?

EDIT: Oh, I should learn to read all new messages before replying. ;)

I made a thread about this, but it may be more appropriate here:

Would experienced users here recommend a Dell M4800 from 2014 as a Digital Audio Workstation? All I seem to read about are issues with hardware (motherboards crapping out, bluescreen crashes), drivers and DPC latency. I don't want to spend $1500 on a PC I have to screw around with beyond logical updates, and hardware upgrades like RAM and SSD.

    Hey M.J.S.,

I havent looked into the heat sink issue yet, I will do that in the next day or two.

Yes, Dell will still send tech to help me replace it. Still confirming details.

Thanks again for all your help! I'll keep everyone posted on this topic just in case if anyone runs into a similar issue in the future.

Bear in mind the happy people with no issues rarely post online, so you're probably seeing complaints from the unhappy minority.

I had some lockups early on but it's been rock solid after the first couple months. I'm not sure if the fix was in a newer BIOS or disabling LPM, but I'm happy.

Not sure about the DAW use specifically, but you won't find many machines with more power without going to a 17" model. Do you know what true pros use for this sort of work? I've only ever seen people complaining about latency in their notebooks, which makes me wonder.

Good point, but there seems to be a good deal more about Dell's driver issues and the like online than others (i.e. Lenovo W540, HP Zbook, etc). It's also troubling when I find very little info about Dells being used for DAWs (and the few things I find are about driver issues), when I've had a few now recommend Lenovo and HP for budget-range workstations.

True pros use multi-8-core systems each with 32GB RAM :). Pros with a budget ceiling tend to use iMacs or PCs, but in the laptop realms seem to use workstations or Macbook Pro's. The Pro is a bit out of my league at the moment, I can't seem to justify spending $2000 on a system with so many limitations.

I don’t know. It is understandable in your case that you’re looking specifically for DAW recommendation. (Neither I can help you there.)

With regard to overall system stability or reliability… I wouldn’t say there are driver issues. Only that Dell can be slow in certifying drivers. But I don’t think I’ve ever had an issue with a driver released by Dell. (Nor with those drivers I got directly from Nvidia, or Windows Update.)

The last (and possibly only) BSOD I got was sometime summer, when I experimented with a particular version of Intel HD driver not released for M4800 nor released generally by Intel.

I have to admit I have been through one nasty issue with Dell-released BIOS, though.

Overall, however, this seems to be the most important M4800 forum on the Internet, yet note how sedated and boring it has become lately. There just hasn’t been much to discuss anymore.

FYI - I am selling a AUO AU Optronics B156HW01 V.4 V4 15.6" FHD LED Antiglare 95% NTSC Color Gamut panel that will work well with the m4800. You will need the FHD LVDS cable if you have a 720 panel currently - see my post in the NBR marketplace if interested.
