Thanks, I appreciate the suggestions. I'll give it a try tonight after work, or possibly tomorrow since I am exhausted and it's only noon.

Thanks for the tip. I've seen similar problems with some nvidia drivers in windows so I thought it might be related to that.

Just press CTRL-ALT-F1 CTRL-ALT-F7 to get the screen to light up again. (ie. go to the invisible console and back)
coming out of screensaver mode it seems the screen is not beeing initialized properly
This is a nvidia driver problem, go and complain here:
    https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/board/98/
Only enough complaining voices will get them to recognize this as an issue and fix it.

Its all down to user experience and how you handle your software allot can go wrong between software-drivers-hardware-firmware etc, so you have to just do what you can.

no perfect laptop out there but if you want portable desktop this is best yet option.

I have eliminated all problems for now and its a steady system. I have done a few jobs on it without trouble. I'm running A09 BIOS which helped with most issues I personally had.

so I would say make sure when you get it you check that its latest BIOS if not update it restart few times.

I have QHD and dont think I will go back to 1080 unless forced to. screen is clean and sharp by SHARP :)

not much choice there this is top notch if it works think about it...

I have QM4900 CPU 1000MB read 800MB write 512drive and QHD screen. if it stays stable ill send dell a post card lol

+1 for the latest BIOS. I find it to be more stable as well.

It may throttle more on lower wattage PSUs, but I haven't been using under 180W.

I can't believe more people aren't complaining about this!
I own a M6700 and have had a few problems with it so Dell upgraded me to an M6800. Problem is that my M6700 had an IPS screen and this feature is no longer available with the M6800 so I reluctantly opted for the matt 1920x1080. I currently have both machines while I transfer data etc so I did some comparison photos comparing the screen quality.

M6800 on the LEFT (matte standard) and the M6700 on the RIGHT (IPS)

I am really disappointed with the quality of the M6800 screen (matte 1920 x 1080). I can't believe this standard is acceptable. I mean this is a high spec laptop and Dell offer a screen this bad? The viewing angle is almost unusable. Left to right angle - not so bad, but up and down is so bad that I have to constantly move my head up and down to get an understanding of the colours on my screen. Everything thing is washed out and lacks vibrancy with a blue tinge through it.

Does anyone else have this problem? I mean, I understand that it wont be as good as the IPS, but this screen doesn't even come close to other laptops in the $1500 - $2000 range (Sony, Samsung etc..) and Dell quoted my M6800 over 4 X that price!

Is this normal or do I have a dud? Is this a known characteristic of the LG, AUO or Chi Mei etc.. screens?http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...0d1406019365-m6800-owners-thread-_mg_7536.jpg

    Then you are very lucky.
I personally find those gigantic bricks with the stiff cables to be the biggest problem of the laptop.
It takes up several times the volume of the older power supplies and this makes the machine un-portable.
If I wanted a stationary machine, I would have assembled myself a nice PC.

The old power supplies have proven that they can power the laptop in normal usage situations
and only BIOS versions >5 cripple the laptop artificially when they detect the power supply.
