So Dell has realised that releasing config with QHD screen and no Optimus enabled was a bad idea? At least in the UK market, as you can still get QHD in the US ;) There must be some logic in their strategy but so far I fail to see it :)

I fail to understand why Optimus was not enabled - the XPS 15 and M3800 manage to cope with it and a QHD display. I can understand the reasoning for previous generations of Precisions with a 10 bit IPS panel - IIRC the Intel GPU couldn't handle 10 bit displays but this case seems rather absurd as there's a massive battery life hit by running the dGPU constantly. :/

I did read in this forum that - if I remember correctly - there was an issue with the mainboard that prevented them from enabling Optimus in M4800, I am sure if you search the forum you will find more information. It would be interesting to see if Dell will consider redesigning the chassis - due to required changes in the mainboard itself - in M4900 in order to implement Optimus or will just assume that workstation type laptops do not need them anyway and by doing this create more distinction between M3XXX and M4XXX series. (but please do not qoute me on this, I might have missed a crucial detail or two ;)

M4800 and Optimus? - Laptop General Hardware Forum - Laptop - Dell Community

Found this talking about the M4800 & Optimus. I have to say that I hope Dell brings out a new chassis for the M4900 as the current one has been around in the guise of a M6x00 model since the M6400. Could be nice to see a lighter/more compact machine that still offers the same features as the M4800.
