How does the weight/bulk compare to an E6530? I Only thing I have much experience with is an older E6500, which looks like a tad lighter, but similar dimensions.

I'm looking for a good IPS 1080 panel for my M4700, anyone know where to buy one? Also I was wondering if the new Dell QHD+ 3800x1800 panels would work on the M4700?

Replacing the panel in the M4700 with an IPS panel requires also replacing the motherboard. (It uses a different display connector.)

The IPS is no longer offered in the M4700 because of the corner tint issue. (You'll find lots of posts about this in the earlier pages of this thread.) I imagine it will be difficult or impossible to find a compatible panel that doesn't have this issue.

As for the QHD+, we'll have to wait for someone to find out what kind of connector it has... I'm doubting that it'll work in a M4700 with regular display, though.

LVDS connector in M4700 can't drive such crazy high resolutions. So a straightforward upgrade has chances close to zero. Another option would be replacing the motherboard for the one used in M4800 since M4700 and M4800 share the same chasis. But I guess it's not worth the pain.

Minor internal changes to the chasis make me think the motherboard would not fit properly. For instance, firewire is gone (and thus USB ports moved up), wifi card is in a different place.

(You'd also need a new CPU if it did fit.)

Different display connector? Crappy. I wonder why. I guess I bought my M4700 too early, should've waited for the M4800 and at least get the QHD+. Thanks for the info!

The connector has more pins to handle the 10-bits-per-color that the IPS display supports.

M6600/M6700 actually have both connectors on the motherboard so upgrading to IPS is a little less painful. M4600/M4700 have a different version of the board depending on which you need.

Anyone tried the Thinkpad thinkpoint cap (the red one) on his m4700?

    Was it a easy transfer?

I see that makes sense. Would be nice if that was supported more internally and having a more standard connector in the same way that there are DVI connectors for both IPS and non-IPS external monitors for desktop computers.

    Thanks for the info though.
