    Hi everyone,
I have recently got a refurbished M4700 with the following specs:
    i7 3840QM
    windows 8 Pro
    NVidia K2000
    16GB RAM(2DIM)
    512 GB Liteon SSD
    FHD 1920x1080 Anti-Glare

I would be glad if anyone can help me with some issues that I am having:

    1. USB 3 ports don't work after a wake up from sleep mode. I have to restart the system in order to use the ports again. I dont know if it is related with the drivers but according to the Dell software, my system is up-to-date with all the drivers. Does any of you had similar problem?

    2. I have tried HWinfo64 program to find out what screen I have but it only says that the screen is "Generic PnP monitor". I am a little worried about the screen that I have no idea what brand it is.

    3. I would like to add two more 8 GB RAMs, but I think Dell uses Nanya Technology RAMs. I want to make sure that I am buying correct RAMs so that they work together properly. Any suggestion?

    4. I get 6.9 as the WEI score for the graphics with the latest driver and the optimus is disabled from the BIOS. I know that WEI scores are not that realistic, but it is the only way that I know to have an opinion for the performance of the components. Is this score normal?
    Thanks...

    3. Use CPU-Z to determine the timings of your modules and make sure the new ones that you buy match. Newegg will allow you to filter by speed and CL rating, which should get you close enough.

    4. That score seems reasonable for the K2000M to me? Are you expecting higher or lower?

hello guys, i have a not direct question for the m4700.
i had a crucial m4 which needed to be replaced after it doesnt worked anymore...now after more then one month i have the option to get my money back or buy a other ssd.

i think the most people here replaced the hdd with a ssd...my question is now. would you buy again a crucial m4 or would you buy the samsung 840basic?

maybe a few of you guys has some experience with both models.

since the m4 "broke" so fast i tend more to the samsung but it seems the lifetime of it is 1/3 shorter then on the crucial....but my crucial got damaged after not even one year.

when this damn notebook wouldnt be so expensiv i would trow it out of the window right now........i have now the same problem as some month ago.

i removed the hdd, put the ssd in and i have now the same problem which i had a few pages ago.

the screen is black and doesnt work anymore.
i can attach a second monitor which allows me to get into the bios and diagnostic.

i started the diagnostic and got a failure message. maybe it appeared since the image was shown just on the extern monitor...
i dont know. i tried to call dell today but it seems i am a customer who can just talk with them from mo-fr...so i have to wait to get some feedback from them

    dell diagnostic

    error code 2000-0321
    validation 113064
    Msg: LCD EDID EEPROM

i let the check walk trough till it reached the ram and canceled it there. so the new ssd seems to be ok
usually when i start the pc i see the dell logo..it doesn't appears, maybe because it takes some time till the monitor response.

i wanted to install win7 on the ssd with all the other stuff today but now i must wait till monday...again, after waited more then a month to get a replacement for the ssd(not dell) good that i have work to do next week so that i wanted to make the stuff on the weekend....i am so mad right now.

i think i will ask for a whole replacement not just part switch like the last time...it cant be that it happens again after such a short time.

Sorry to hear the bad news.

The LCDs in this model completely blow chunks compared to any laptop I've ever had; ironic given what a great powerhouse of a machine it is otherwise (love the performance).

I had issues with screen flickering as well, the end result being the black screen of death. I discovered that if I just leave the laptop on its stand and never touch it, then the flickering only happens rarely, and never goes to black screen.

M6*00 next time around I think, have not heard much in the way of quality issues over on their board.

    Hello!

My name is Lars, I'm from Germany (so pls excuse my not so perfect english)

I'd like to buy a m4700 from Dell but having trouble while ordering. The Config I'd like to achive is the following:

i7 Quadcore with 32GB of RAM -> No Problem
    Quadro K2000M -> No Problem

    TWO 2,5'' HDDs (1. an 2.5'' SSD with 256GB - 2nd. an 2.5'' 1TB conventional HDD)
TOGETHER with the HSPA Otption (Mobile Broadband aka WWAN)

EVERY Reseller including DELL Hotline tells me this isn't possible.

I'd think this cant be true as the Optical Drive could be replaced by an HDD Caddy and the 2nd 2.5'' HDD goes up the normal Installation Place.

I already know there is no Way using an mSATA and WWAN Module at the same time.

Could anybody pls confirm this is possible? 2x 2.5'' HDD and WWAN Module in Dell m4700 ?

    sincerely Lars

Yes, you can, Dell has a caddy for the M6700, it's likely compatible with the M4700 as well and if not third party caddys would work as long as they're slim ones. Worse case, get the caddy and HDD yourself.

thats the same with my machine..it sits on its dockingstation the whole time. since the last time i did not used it once outside or on travel and it still stop to work how it should.
what would happen when i use it each day outside, traveling with it?

the last time i got a new lcd and the ssd got damaged somehow after the repair guy got...now i put a new ssd in and the lcd doesnt work.
there must be something with the case or connection to the hdd....can it be that something there is broken which cause a failure of the lcd?...yeah i know it should have nothing to do with it but maybe there some components connected? ..i dont know.
its just frustating to have a machine worth so much and it still need to be fixed so many times. i had 3 guys from dell so far here....now i will meet the 4th and that after not even a year.

the big machine...yeah maybe its better but for me alone the money i spend on the small one was not less but i hoped to buy something which i can work on the next 3-4years without any big problems. the big one is to expensive for me.

so you had several times a black screen which needed to be replaced? what did dell changed, just the lcd-connection or some other parts too?

Might be a motherboard issues, not sure.

Nothing changed on my end, in France until end of June. Even when I get back to the States I won't get in-house support since I bought the machine off an eBay reseller (when the warranty is transferred to your name, voila, only parts , no labor warranty, great).

The machine does not move from its laptop stand, which is fine, not an internet cafe worker. Who knows, during travel the flicker/black screen issue may crop up again. Going to re-do thermal paste when I get home, so when the machine is in pieces I'll take a close look at connections and see if anything is loose.

I agree the M6700 is expensive, but if it's a vastly superior machine a couple grand extra is well worth...not staring at a black screen ;-)
