I'll be ordering a M4700 tomorrow (technically later today). Just wanted to ask, can you really get a good discount over the phone? Usually I just order online and get the instant discount.

Usually a rep on the phone can beat the internet price by a little.

Anyone know if the battery is interchangeable between the M4600 and M4700?

I've asked two different chat salesmen whether the M4700 could be ordered with an IPS panel. Both emphatically said YES. I keep hearing on this forum that they discontinued offering them because of quality problems. I want an IPS panel for color critical work, but not if it's a bad one. Just don't want to pay HP $2500-3000 for theirs.

Anyone in the US know anything about this?

The 15" LG IPS panel used in the M4600/M4700 has a corner tint issue. That is, color is off in each of the corners (particularly the bottom corners I think). The HP Elitebook (15") uses the same panel and has the same problem. We've had zero reports of a panel that does not have the issue. Some people have had it swapped out several times but never managed to fix the problem. This is presumably why Dell is not offering it anymore.

If you can live with the corner tint then go ahead and buy one (if possible, which I don't think it is). Otherwise, you can get the M6700 instead (doesn't have the problem) or maybe an external display.

Can you please share the details of the exact item you ordered? Have you installed it since and any issues?

It's very likely to be interchangeable between the M4600 and M4700, though I can't be definitely sure about the M4700 as I haven't had it in my hands.
However, I can tell you that the battery (I've tested the 9-cell type) is definitely interchangeable between the M4600, M6600 and M6700, so I would be surprised if the battery wasn't compatible with the M4700 as well.

(Do note that the 17.3" M6600/M6700 only comes with 9-cell batteries, the 6-cell battery you can get along with the 15.6" M4600/M4700 isn't available with the 17.3" notebooks & probably isn't powerful enough for those either)

I can confirm that the M4700/M6700 batteries are interchangeable so that means that M4600/M4700 should be interchangeable as well.

Side note - When I bought my M6700 there was an option to get the 6-cell battery. Maybe they've since removed it or maybe it's only available with the low-end configuration starting points. But the 6-cell should work in the 17" systems, you'll just only get 2/3 the run time with it.

Just got my M4700 today and I'm very unhappy with the display. HWiNFO shows the display as being AU Optronics B156HW02 panel - it's the 1920x1080 FHD panel. It's very grainy and if I look closely I can see little squares, mostly when looking at white objects. My M4600 has a LG panel and to me it seems of much better quality.

    Anyone else have similar issue?
