Is the m4700 model capable of displaying on two external monitors plus the internal display without using a docking station? I have read THIS POST but it details the possible configurations with the AMD GPU. As I want to buy with the NVidia / Optimus option, It's very crucial to me to be very sure, before paying a lot of money (this laptop is somehow expensive in my country). I have also seen THIS official Dell video on youtube which states that the laptop is capable to do that.

Anyway, I will appreciate the confirmation from the users that owns and checked that this is really working. And thanks for the very great and detailed thread.

I talked with a Dell rep last week when attending a tech event in Brussels. I asked about hte m4700screens and he confirmed that they no longer sell IPS screen for this size since its only one supplier and they can't deliver with quality. However in janauary the new touch screen will come. It will feature full HD and 10 points of contact (windows 8 requirement), it will be glossy and no glass.

With AMD this will work only if one of your monitors is a DisplayPort monitor.

With NVIDIA this will work and it doesn't matter which ports you use.

    Got My Dell M4700

    with I7 3740qm
    K2000m
    8gb - upgraded to 32gb 1600
    97wh Battery
500gb Hard Disk upgraded to 256gb SSD
and the Full HD Screen non Glossy

The Panel is very good for an TN Screen - with an Contrast Ratio of 1:665 and 310c/qm in the Center ( measured with the i1Display Pro 2) it is the LGD032C Monitor.

But i have some issues with that System.

First - installing Windows 8 with UEFI Boot doesn´t work because the Setup always stops with an Error Message. (Mount the Driver disk or USB Stick) - Legancy Boot Installation works without Problems.

And the other Issue appears with my USB 3.0 Hard Drive wich is randomly reconnecting all the time when i plug it into the USB 3 Ports. The Drive works fine at the USB 2.0 Ports.

    Any Suggestions?

Hi I have the nvidia with the k1000m card and I have
1 x wqhd via display port
    1 x hd via hdmi
    1 x hd via vga

I'm tempted to get another wqhd via hdmi as I believe it has the latest hdmi 1.4 that is capable of running these larger displays

Gast24, I suppose that you have checked the drive on all of your USB 3 ports. One thing I recall is the information I have read somewhere that USB 3 ports can make some big interferences to the devices plugged in next to them. I didn't go deeper to investigate this but maybe it will give you some hint to resolve the problem. Also, I have read that some USB flash memories had issues when working on USB 3 ports. The hardware was usually replaced on warranty in such cases and worked well after that. It would be good if you have any other drive which you can check with USB 3 ports.

I hope this information will help you to resolve the issues. Please report back with your findings.

    Hi everybody!
Recently I purchased m4700 with following configuration:
    Intel i7-3920xm
    16GB
    128 ssd + 1TB

I thought that it would be possible to place an extra mSATA instead of WWAN. I bought ADATA 256GB, opened the laptop and found out than my primary 128gb ssd has already been installed into WWAN slot...
Could you please explain - is it possible to place 2 ssd and 1 hdd to m4700 or not?

    Thanks a lot in advance!
