I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure the HP MXM video cards have some weird BIOSes, or part of the video BIOS is included in the mainboard BIOS - something convoluted like that.

Point being, there's a (good) chance you might need to flash a Dell / modded video BIOS, in order to get it to work at all on an M4700.

Cool, thanks for the update. I guess there is indeed a valid reason why they specify that in the listing.

Someone's probably mentioned a few M2000M options in this thread earlier, I don't recall anymore.

I don't think I'm going to do it with mine, but I would love to get a hold of the RGBLED panels for a swap.

Sounds like you have some "extra" internal organs you can spare / do without :D One of those will cost you "a fair(?) bit" (assuming you can find one at all), plus the appropriate cable. Not 100% sure how the Dell ones work exactly, but i know HP's "Dreamcolor" ones have some freaky 50-pin connection, and are on the power-hungry side.

Honestly, I'm not sure about the compatibility, but I was hoping for a minor mod at best. I saw some cheap listings on ebay for some of these RGBLEDs. That said, at this point, I'll admit I don't feel like mucking about with anything on the M4700 to mess with its reliability. I'll stick with drop in upgrades if any!

EDIT: You're right, this does need a 50 pin connector. Wonder what that mod entails. I'll chase that rabbit down the hole some other time!

Gah. Tried the Dell branded M5100 AMD mxm card on my M4700 and while trying to install any of the AMD driver packages, it BSOD's. Is there a file that needs to be modified like with the Nvidia cards? And does anyone have a Dell BIOS for the m2000m card? Thanks.

Have you flashed the BIOS on the m2000m card to the Dell version?

Ok Got a m1000m in M4700. Based on reading here I turned off Ptimus and got nothing on Screen but output was on HDMI when booting. Put the Optimus setting back in and all is working great. Had to modify the inf files and install driver via the "Have disc" method. Optimus switching is working correctly in this setup!!!

I need help. I am in situation to buy very cheap dual core m4700 with 2 mem slot of course.
Mem capacity is not problem, it is enough 2x8 for me.
I have one spare 3610qm and what to use it...
Can I install it in that dual mem board?
    Thanks

    As
As far as I know the board is same - by installing quad core i7 you will also have the possibility to install memory modules to all 4 slots.
