Hello. New M4700 owner here. My question is can I upgrade the K1000m mxm card with the K1100m, or k2100m, or m1000m without software mods? I've searched a bit in this forum and on the the rest of the interwebs, but I can not find a real answer. Has anyone upgraded a m4700 to a K1100m? They are only $25 right now. Thanks!

I couldn't pass up the $25 offer for the K1100m, so I guess I'll be the guinea pig here and try it out as a direct drop in replacement experiment. I'll post again once the card has arrived and I find out if it's Yes, or No. Thanks.

It is highly likely that you will have to modify the NVIDIA driver INF in order to get the driver to load. This isn't hard to do and you can find instructions online. Otherwise, everything should be fine as long as there aren't any surprises like getting the heatsink to fit.

Also, I recently upgraded the GPU in my M6700 and found that Optimus is broken afterwards (have to turn it off in order to use the NVIDIA GPU for rendering to the laptop screen). I haven't seen much Optimus-specific discussion with regards to GPU upgrades so I am not sure how widespread this issue would be.

I can confirm..... IT WORKS!!! Dell Precision M4700 upgraded with K1100M MXM card WORKS!!! No messing with the BIOS necessary. The Nvidia INF file DOES need to be modified and I can post mine, but it WORKS!!!! YAY!!!

Have you guys tried Quadro M1000M on M4700?

Quadro M1000M is better than AMD M5100 and now it costs only $150 on Ebay.
    I think M1000M is a great deal considering M2000M is still $300.

    Hi,

Does FirePro W5170M card work on M4600?
    It appears W5170 is newer than M5100 and it's about 15 - 20% better than M5100.

Late answer but yeah I tested many times, it works just as a 965m should. Put about 50 hours on battlefield 4 on it as well as a good chunk on player unknowns battlegrounds now. Not the 1080 in my desktop but it gets the job done when I'm not home.

I don't have any numbers recorded on hand for frame rate and such but everything I play on 1366x768 runs just fine, no stuttering or anything.
