People who have been using / keeping track of M2000M in the M4700, could you please post updates on how the system is running, stability, performance and anything else to note?

    Thank you.

I geekbench3-ed the M4700 with a 3740QM and it won't go beyond ~10500. The other benchmarks for this combination seem to do ~11500-12500.

    16GB (4x4)
    Samsung PMxxx
    Nvidia K2000M

    Drivers up to date.

Any clues? It's on the 180W power supply, fresh Win 7 Pro install and I've tried both 'Balanced' and 'High Performance'.

Could improper/dried thermal paste be responsible? I may run Furmark and see what the deal is.

Could something be wrong in the hardware or did I just lose the binning lottery?

    Thank you!

Ah, I just found out that Intel SpeedStep can throttle the performance. I'll have to check if it's enabled.

Alright, it was windows doing its thing that was eating up 13% of the processor.

Some background services (look for svchost.exe in the 'show all processes') related to windows update and other stuff. After killing them and running Geekbench 3 before it respawned, I got the expected scores of about ~12300+.

After having this in my current system for a year or so, I wouldn't recommend it.

Dell is not pushing out updates for the FirePro M5100 driver, and you cannot download them directly from AMD. The result is that the latest driver available is only 15.201.2701, whereas everything else AMD is now 16.0+. This is a problem because...

The driver is unstable as all hell. Fairly regular crashes on my Windows 10 64-bit system. Some days just playing a video in Firefox will lock up the graphics driver. I used to use the equivalent of live wallpapers, but those cause the driver to lock up all the time as well, so now I don't.

On top of everything else, the card causes the system to ignore most hibernation/sleep settings. Additionally, since it pulls 55W versus the stock AMD card's 45W, I've found that the system has a lot of trouble estimating how much battery life I have left. Most times I no longer get a "10% battery remaining" warning - the system just suddenly powers off.

For my next upgrade, I will be getting an nVidia card - even if just for the ability to download the drivers directly from the actual manufacturer of the card and not having to rely on Dell. The only thing I'm going to miss is the ability to drive more than 2 external displays at once.

Related - how is Optimus nowadays? I remember when it first came out, it really screwed up support for a lot of games.

It's half past 2016 and this is still an issue.

Are there any Dell Engineers who read this thread? Please please put in a good word to the powers that be to issue a firmware upgrade that address this sudden on-off fan behavior and replaces it with a gradual ramp up of fan speeds! Please and thank you.

    Hi everybody,

I plan to buy a dell M4700 and i would know the advantage and the disadvantage of the graphic card.
The amd firepro M4000 and the Nvidia K2000M. Thanks for your opinion and experience.

Hey.. I have K2100M in my M4700 at the moment. I wasn't able to install Win 10 and use Optimus technology - i was stuck on Intel so i am back on Win 7. I have older Precision M6500 with FirePro M3740 and there i had no issues with Win 10. So in case u plan to go with W10 u'll have to eighter disable optimus and sacrifice battery life or ask some1 with M4000 if its working. I saw some advices on how to install W10 with optimus but i imply didnt have the patience to test them.

    Hey guys,

Just snagged one of these laptops for super cheap (i7-3540m, 16gb ram, 1080p screen, k2000m). Managed to flash a custom k2000m vbios and am rocking an overclock of 1105/1160 ( +360 core , + 260 memory , memory is a little weak i guess). It seems to game pretty well, but interested in putting in an m2000m once the prices drop.

Anyone else feel like the GPU market has gone up a lot lately? I have an m6600 as well and I got a K4000m in that system, only cost me $145 CAD, and now those cards are going for closer to $350 CAD. Pretty crazy.

Thats a shame, crappy optimus use and failing drivers from nvidia is what prompted me to switch to the m5100 on my m4600.

You can download the drivers directly from AMD, I have mine from them, running 16.11.5, even went back to download the drivers again after not liking the ReLive driver.

Your battery issue I would say is Windows 10 related, as Windows 10 likes to ignore my settings regarding power. I like to leave my machine on when I am sleeping but everyday after installing windows 10 it just shuts off at some point during the night.

That being said, I am interested in the m2000m GPU, as it should be stronger than the m5100

Is it possible to overclock k1000m? My k1000m in my m4700 has ridiculous temps as it only goes to 57C and there would be way more headroom for overclock.
I have tried with Afterburner, but i can't set core clock's lower or higher. GPU-Z also shows that Utilization is the limiting factor all the time.
I can extract the bios with GPU-Z, but making a modded bios with kepler bios tweaker will not propably help me if i can't set the core clock's.

Have Nvidia or Dell disabled overclocking the gpu?

Is there any way to overclock? This gpu has way more potential.

I am also thinking of buying gtx 965m and trying it in m4700. Has anyone tested one yet?

I already flashed bios and now i got three screens. :D It is now complaining about cant read EDID with controller 0-15. Can someone help me?

I think i might have corrupted EDID or then my gpu bios is fd up. I already saved the original with nvflash but it does not help.
