I have IC Diamond, but i won't apply it until there is way to overclock the CPU. Under most situation the temperature is fine.

Precision laptop is for business, and stability is of utmost priority. Overclocking causes instability and Dell wouldn't want that to happen to this series and ruin the name. Non of other brand Sandy Bridge "Workstation" notebook offers overclocking. Clevo is not qualified as workstation because of no docking support.

Consider it done right when on Tuesday I get my M6600 fixed and I can start tinkering with it again.

People buy it because its Turbo Boost is massive and people want that extra power to run their encoding software.

    From the Throttlestop thread:

"From what I've read, there is no way to increase the multiplier with Sandy Bridge when you are in Windows. This can only be done on the unlocked K or XM CPUs and you can only change this before you boot up. I was going to block the TRL window for Sandy Bridge CPUs but I haven't done any testing to see if this feature could be used to lower the maximum amount of turbo boost. If that doesn't work either then I will block this feature for Sandy Bridge CPUs in the next release."

I guess it's not Dell specific, but the CPU/chipset wide (though it makes sense with the availability of the TurboBoost feature).

That is true however some people has been able to overclock on their XM's in the BIOS as well per what unclewebb is stating, but doing it via in Windows is not possible and Dell has not made the BIOS accessible to said features as well. So in conclusion, it is not going to happen on the Precision.

Ok so using both nvidiatool and msi afterburner, I get about:

    770mhz / 1170mhz memory.
I need to use both softwares since nvidia tool limits memory at 1080mhz and msi limits gpu at 715mhz. please tell me if u know any software that can push further the memory clocks. currently it is in msi limit.

That is 40% flat increase for gpu and 30% flat increase for the memory.

I have yet to push more juice more memory due to software limit.

But I must say that although I am very disappointed at GDDR3 and 128bit bandwith, this gpu and memory combination overclocks like a mothaxxxxx.

    Simply just crazy.

Dellienware I saw your post in the other thread. A 37% gain that is not bad. Could you post the version numbers of nvidia tools, and the other software your using.. Or links to? screen shots. I am just trying to make this easy for everyone and reduce the noob factor;-) Thanks again!!

    1. Running the drivers from dell website which is essentially the latest
    2. using the systools that is the latest CERTIFIED beta from nvidia's website. Not just the beta one.
    3. Latest msi afterburner

like i said, i need to use both systools and msi due to software limits.

If anyone can find a software that will let me oc my memory further, i will try. I just want to hit 40% flat increase in actual performance. This card is a beast

    Thanks.
