    Hi All,
I wanted to start a thread on overclocking. With my new M4600 I've noticed that the cooling system is very good and would figure there is room to overclock the I7 extreme and Nvidia graphics card. I've also read that the extreme addition processors can be overclocked almost up to 4ghz which I think is impressive. I however don't know the process as I am sure others as well don't and wanted to start a tread for us all to share our experiences and information. The M4600 and M6600 are very close in processors and graphic cars so I combined the two so we can capture the largest wealth of minds. I look forward to learning more.

I only know how to overclock the FirePros and doing so is very easy. I think nVidia you might need to use the nVidia System Tools or MSI Afterburner after applying a modded driver that enables laptop overclocking.

CPU overclocking is impossible on the Dell Precisions since Dell hard-locked the BIOS for any CPU overclocking unless you know the PLL on the motherboard is one that supported on SetFSB. However so far, I haven't heard of any CPU overclocking success on these models.

i used systools but it is limited for memory clock.

But I guess you can overclock them if you have Extreme versions with unlocked multipliers (e.g. like it can be done with the QX9300 on the M6400 with ThrottleStop)?

Hey, Could you please post a little tutorial on how to overclock the Quadro 2000m. I tried it and really have no idea what I'm doing. If anyone wants to post other tutorials for other cards and CPU's I'll post then in the main post for everyone to enjoy and tweak.

Not possible. The motherboard is simply not unlocked by the BIOS to be even touched by Throttlestop.

I could write one up in the next two weeks on how to ATI FirePro overclock and as a bonus I can even show you how to even modify the vBIOS of the FirePro M8900 to make it become the Radeon 6970M and vice-versa.

ohh? I am interested on FirePro too, M5950, but should be the same procedure liek M8900.

For CPU it is not possible to overclock because of bios lock, only a bios hack can overcome that. Even at normal turbo speed the temperature is already very high during stress test (prime95) until the system needs to downclock it.

Why would dell offer the Extreme editions if we can't overclock them. Isn't that the whole reason for buying one because it is unlocked?? If this is the case we should get on the phone with Dell.. I know that only the Extreme i7's can be overclocked with sandy bridge. I was reading that someone overclocked it to 4ghz stable but not sure in what laptop.

I wonder it the temps are a little high because dell is using thermal pads. I saw an article on here about how using some MX-4 Artic silver lowered the temperatures. I figure for 9 dollars i might give it a try. I wonder this only because one of my cores stays 12 degrees cooler under stress tests then the others. I wonder if the thermal compound isn't even. I really feel the cooling on the M4600 is a good system. I notice the GPU fan barley blows out any heat.. I'm just doing research before I jump into overclocking.

Also looks like the Alienware Dell laptops can be overclocked to 4ghz!
