i dont actually have a desk.....i use it on my lap a lot. normally i put it on a textbook so i wont need viagra by the time im 30 and also to keep the vents free (i make sure the vents are not resting on the book)

but im looking to get a cooler that would be ok to use on the lap, and the coolslice seems to be designed specifically for this. (see dell description)

just wondering if its worth the price..it does fit very nicely though, since it attaches at the docking port attach points. and its supposedly magnesium alloy as well

Are ALL these m4400 units overheating (and thus throttling back) like described? This has scared me off ordering one. Please advise.

lol....as said in other thread...nope, downclocking was mainly caused by faulty BIOS, the notorious A03....with most systems it seems ironed out now but with some it remains. It's only a matter of time 'till they're all fixed though and 'till then BIOS A03 or A02 works for everyone

Man, the m4400 is a beast! You just happen to read a thread where people like to push the unit to it's max. It is far from unstable. I think there were some issues with the first units shipped but things seem rock solid now. I am not a gamer but so far my unit hasn't had any issues at all. Even my stock Dell wifi card is seeing networks that I have never seen before.
As the great Chandler Bing once said, "My diamond shoes are too tight!" ;)

You won't find out if you have the problem if you don't gam minibob. And it did downclock without OC'ing...so we weren't really pushing it then, just gaming ;)

Yeah, you are absolutely right. I will throw a good game on here when I will get the chance. In the meantime, I am counting on you and the others who are testing their units the way you guys are. I figure you guys are a good barometer of what is acceptable performance for high end laptops.

haha...thx for letting us fry our machines!! Lol...kidding. I didn't have that much experience with all this before getting this laptop but paid good attention to what was going on, and yeah, i do like to get the most out of the occasional gaming i do...and i'm curious to see just how fast a new computer can actually be :D

Mine doesn't and never has [I was probably one of the first to get one on these boards] so the analogy that its the old ones that have this trouble, isn't necessarily true.
Although I bought it primarily for solidworks,I also play games....a lot.
