    @Sydalesis

    Sorry to hear, can imagine. Do you have any experience with the E-MU 1616m under 64bit? If that's working fine i might get XP 64 too. The 64bit drivers for the card are supposed to work in Vista too but in practice it gives a LOT of issues.

    @all

    Have been gaming for about 2 1/2 hours now, Far Cry 2 and no downclocks whatsoever. I didn't OC, temps got too 74celsius max, fans cooled everything down real fast afterwards and slowed down too. All good here, except i got my first BSOD with the new laptop while i was doing 3dsmax. No idea what caused it

    Might try it then :)
    I see all the drivers are just in one pack so i actually already have them. But as said earlier, Vista 64 was nothing but trouble for audio work, also due to a lot of incompatibilities with older software.
    XP64 looks like a good choice as i really like how XP handles everything and the extra RAM would be welcome, and even more when expanding to 8gb later on :D

    99c is VERY hot!! I wouldn't do that on a regular basis. Mid 80's is max for me....the card should be able to handle it and not fry at 99 but it's getting critical. Is this in A09? If so, please roll back to A02 or A03

    nah A03. and dont worry, it was around 70-80 most of the time. i actually dont know when it went up to 99... i think i might have blocked the fan inlet at the bottom at some point

    i just looked at the max value in hwmonitor. so it could have just been a dodgy reading

    coolslice thread? Missed that one and no idea really. I just use my external Lacie HDD to put the back edge of the laptop on or even the power brick...helps a bit.

    running a09 now, just playing wow on 4xoversampling and all effects for 5 hours no problem with framerate and also no problem with the fan but perhaps i just havent been pushing the system enough.

    Downclocking happens when the gpu gets too hot am i right? so the question is how fast does it cool down and operate at normal speed again. with a06 it never returned to normal but a09 for my needs at least.
