i just rolled back to a02 , its sooo quiet now. A03 gives me downclocking too altough it was the best bios with a02. It does it in every bios afaik. If there was no downclocking then this computer would be top notch its the major problem it has. Other than that like i said i still have hope to lay mobile studio foundation with this guy, and he has a chance to become the core of a nice studio:

2x 61 key midi controllers with sustain pedals and lots of midi controls/knobs
Mackie Control Pro + extender pro + c4 pro
    Rme multiface with octamic
    hdspe expresscard
M1 active mk2 or portable loudspeakers
    Couple of guitars/mics/pedals/dbox/etc
Lots of VST/VSTI's and other soundbanks mostly in rex2/wav
    Couple trackers/daw softwares like sonar/cubase

Will it be able to handle it :) If all works out nicely i will also get him a quad-core slave for cpu processing , I will also use a esata hard disk that will be vital. There is still hope for this machine hehe I am already using it's cpu processing power over fx teleport in network combined with an older desktop that has a dsp and is the current master.

I don't have ANY downclocking with A03...fans works exactly like they should and so does everything else. That would indeed be a nice studio setup :D.

But the downclocking is really the only thing isn't it? What were you problems with DCP? You mention there are sooo many major problems so i get curious ;)

Early dcp versions were crashing very often, and the interface was slow, sluggish and unresponsive. They have fixed that now, your lucky if you dont, do you use a second monitor ? did you apply thermal paste ? I have seen downclocks in every bios , a02,a03,a05,a06,a09. I can assure you i can do it in a03 quite easily.

Hmmmm ok...DCP never gave me any problems, in both OS'es they work fine. Though i have to say i don't have connection manager or security installed, just Dell Control Point.
Yeah is use a Dell 2709w external monitor.
I've applied AS5 now and that did get temps down but also before that i didn't experience downclocking in either of the 2 m4400's i had when i ran A03. When overheating/downclocking happened in A06 the AS5 past doesn't stop it from reaching 105celsius......by simple deductive logic it has to be some setting in the BIOS. In A03 the gpu doesn't perform any less than in A06 when it heats up like that so it's not like they had the GPU toned down before, it's like the GPU just gets overloaded......other components don't seem to overheat in A06 so it really has to do with the GPU settings in later BIOS versions...
I do agree that it's hard to understand that Dell hasn't been able to determine what's causing it

Well constant dcp crashes, dead pixels in original screen i had to replace, constant gpu downclocks , bloatware, bad noisy bios updates (lmao) , uninformed tech support and court trials between dell and nvidia seems like major problems to me.

Ok, fair enough. But do realise that those problems definetly don't exist for everyone. And you are using the most problematic OS in existence ;)
IMO the GPU problem is the same as the issues with BIOS updates.

Did you have to replace a screen yourself? I had tech guys coming over doing everything ;)

    What bloatware?

It's just that you make things sound FAR worse than they are imho
Try normal XP or Vista64.....though vista might give some other issues with your audio stuff i'm afraid....thats the reason i dual boot to XP...though i won't ever touch XP 64...never heard anyone without any problems with it

God....sounds like i'm really on Dell's defence now though i did have issues with my laptops...i did need a replacement so it's hard to say all was fine all the time ;) But Dell did fix and/or replace everything i had issues with so....

I have produced and recorded over 12 albums on xp pro x64 daw

I would never touch vista, or go back to 3 gigs of ram with xp.

I dont have much problems, less than xp. I use it since a few years.
Companys had to make vista drivers so they also made the x64 ones they forgot heh.

Seriously the only problem with x64 was in the first year, there was somehow a lack of drivers with very old gear and people upgraded since and those drivers were made, yeah java doesnt work in a 64 bit browser but i can still use normal 32bit browsers , thats about all the problems i can think of. That was what, 4 years ago or something ? Anyways if you really want to know why im mad is because i have to be in court as a jury sommation and its not cool , i have to go sleep 2 hours and a half now , later.

I came back to A03 and the downlocks are gone, hooray! Thanks for the ftp link, I♥RAM.
Hope Dell gets down to some work and finally releases a BIOS with all updated AND no downlocks.
