Ok, it's probably just me but it's been a long time since I installed Vista64 (it's that reliable) and I've forgotten a few things...

    1. How do I prevent the battery from being charged when the laptop is switched on (and powered by cable)?

    2. How can I make the CD automatically stop spinning after, say, a minute of non-use?

    :)

    1. Fn+F2 toggles battery charging.

    2. Not sure, I don't even have mine enabled, as I image a disc and use Daemon Tools normally.

Ok, thanks for your help on 1. Solved! :)

    3. What's this Wi-fi catcher thing all about? As I mentioned, I've formatted/reinstalled the OS so I'm just installing things as I need them. Before I did reinstall, the WIFI light lit up (the one above the escape key). Now it isn't. What do I need to install to activate Wi-Fi connection? I've searched here and some mention 'Quickset' - what's that?

    :)

So, there are basically two wifi hardware switches/button. One is a real switch, it turns on the wireless lan, bluetooth wwan, etc.
The other one is ar button (called the wifi-catcher). It is supposed to bring up a window with all available wireless connections. (unfortunately this feature does currently not support wireless lan connections, there is a dell support note on this issue)
The wifi-catcher button has to be turned on in the bios to work.
(Wrote this from my knowledge of the m4400, should be the same on the m2400)

Thanks. So, how do I connect to a Wi-fi connection, even if I do find one? :)

Ah, ok - that was easy! My phone is detecting a wi-fi signal nearby but my laptop isn't. What's wrong?

What about the CD spinning? Any ideas?

    Thanks so far. :)

Is the Wifi light on above the ESC key?

    No, that hasn't lit since I formatted/reinstalled.
